This week we’re giving heartfelt thanks to Denis Robinson, Dee Robinson, and Tim Preece as they step down as trustees of CARP after over 20 years of incredible service.
From the very beginning, Denis, Dee and Tim led efforts to transform a neglected green space into the much-loved park we know today. Their leadership helped secure major grants, restore historic features, and open up the park for everyone to enjoy.
Their passion and leadership helped transform Castlefields Park look into the vibrant, welcoming place it is today. Just a few highlights from their journey:
✨ In 2012, restoring the historic Calne Canal Town Lock, derelict since 1877 and installing the much-loved Jubilee Queen faux barge made by the fictitious Afur Boat Company.
✨ Resowing the hay meadow and building beautiful new paths
✨ Reviving the spring at Chaveywell and the castle mound walls
✨ Creating a new fitness trail, installing public art, and improving access for all
✨ Securing major funding, including £68,600 from the Big Lottery’s People’s Millions Award
✨ Organising free community events to give back to the residents of Calne
✨ They helped bring in new outdoor gym equipment and the willow arbour to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
✨ Of course we must also mention the time and thought that has gone into organising work parties, committee meetings, and the tireless work behind the scenes which has kept the charity running.
Though they have now stepped back, their legacy lives on (and there’s still work to do!). CARP will continue working with Calne Town Council to carry the vision forward with the help of volunteers. We know Denis, Dee, and Tim will be cheering us on 💚
