We are coming to the end of another busy week with a minibus run to Saltash’s Live Wire, and three drop-in sessions. All tend to create “debris” which our volunteers try to clean up. Our weekly cleaning fairy does an excellent job in The Vault.

However, there are some young people who voluntarily help to clear up, especially when they realise the quantum amount has been left by one of their “gang”. Here’s an example just to prove it!

They are not all bad.

We’ve just been on BBC Radio Cornwall being interviewed by James Dundan, promoting Mayfest, CYPG and our new band D3KAY.

Come and see us today, and see D3KAY perform on the Mew Road stage at 4.15.

Who can’t do videos then ?

Look out for this lot at Mayfest, 9th May. They are CYPG’s new house band “D3KAY”; namely Martim, Rosa, Cara and Austin.

They will be on the New Road Stage at 4.15 performing some classic covers.

Please come and support them!

On Saturday we will open the doors to The Vault Youth Centre so that people coming to Callington MayFest can see inside.

What they will see has been created only with the help of our volunteers and helpers. By helpers, we mean those individuals and local companies/organisations that have either contributed cash or helped us make, move or mend things. Examples include M J Troup Plant Hire who have helped with several cash donations and lending us physical help to modify the internal space.

Come and see us on Saturday and see what they have helped us create.

Easter being over we re-started our drop-in sessions last week and LiveWireBus this evening

It is timely to remind ourselves how long we have been running; LiveWireBus started in March 2022 and The Vault Youth Centre was opened in April 2024. That’s 4 and 2 years ago respectively.

We, the trustees, could not do this without the help of many people, including our youth workers, our volunteers, local community groups, quite a lot of individual donors and helpers, and our young people themselves.

Having last year purchased the building we now occupy we are now embarking on a project to bring forward the refurbishment of the upper floors into flats. This will hopefully get us planning consent and firm priced tenders with which we can approach funders for the money, expected to be a further £250,000. If successfully completed, the flats will provide a stable income to allow us to run and even expand our sessions, and also provide “starter homes” for young adults to rent.

Fingers crossed!

We thought you might like to see a little bit of what goes on inside The Vault Youth Centre.

In this, our last week before Easter, we’ve been doing some basic cooking in our kitchen and concluding a pool tournament. These photos of Kamron, Alice, Faith, Luke, Alex and Ellie are published with their permission.

Despite the image that a very small number might create from time to time there are some very good and responsible young people in Callington.

Our drop-in sessions start again on 15th April. It costs about £20,000 a year to provide our services. We also have a pool of over 25 volunteers. We need more of both so we can expand our offering so if you fancy helping please email [email protected] or call 07904 269495.

Easter is coming!

We will be open this week on Wednesday April 1st (really!) and Thursday April 2nd.

We are then closed until Wednesday 15th April when our drop-in sessions start again.

Most recently we have seen about 60 young people sign in every day, so we must be doing something right! Our upgraded kitchen also works well.

We will check about LiveWireBus and let our regular passengers know.
