Whilst we run drop-in sessions in The Vault Youth Centre in Callington we recognise that not every young person can get to us, especially if they live in one of the many surrounding hamlets and villages.

However, they can have access to this digital youth club. Even though it is on line it is run by a reputable organisation, SPACE, with all necessary safeguards in place to protect young people.

This is the first of two important announcements about things happening in September and October.

We are really short of volunteers to help us run our thrice weekly drop-in sessions, especially females. Likewise, volunteers who could drive our minibus on Monday evenings.

Volunteers would need to undergo a DBS check (which we pay for) and some basic training. The work is very rewarding and supports our youth workers to do their job.

We are holding our AGM at The Vault Youth Centre on Thursday 15th October from 7.30pm. Please join us to find out what we do and see if you could help in any way.

Wow!

Today we have seen Asteria, ie Lottie, Cara, Erin, Ruby, and Scarlett, a fantastic young band borne out of CYPG and Livewire Youth Music, perform a brilliant set of covers at the Saltash Regatta.

They’ve been secretly practicing at The Vault Youth Centre in Callington, and at Live Wire.

We remain forever grateful for the support of local businesses.

Today Matthew Troup helped us with his team of Steve and Arran to trace where our drains go, and check the condition of the pipes. We used an eco friendly dye and a camera to be sure. Being laid when the building was first built 125 years ago we are confident they will serve us well once we have converted the upper floors into four flats.

Also, every month, we are grateful to Biffa Waste Services who empty our always full bins. Our young people consume a lot of drinks when they come to our drop-in sessions and we have a significant number of cans and bottles to recycle.

One surprise; in looking for the drains we found what looks to be an old well or possible mine shaft. Something to investigate later.

We are often amazed and heartily encouraged by the support of our community and also our young people.

The LCCP Show (see pic) is looking to donate their surplus funds from this year’s show to us.

What’s more, a group of our own young people are looking to raise some money through a bit of fun; painting the head of our youth worker Jon as a basket ball.

We are trying to make the outside of our home look a bit smarter. Alex, one of our volunteers, is power washing and painting bit by bit.

We are very grateful to Trewartha Gregory & Doidge for donating a large tub of white masonry paint.

If anyone wants to help Alex please shout out; this kind of volunteering does not need a DBS check as you’d only be outside The Vault, in the sun!
