The Security Institute fully supports the call from over 70 private security companies and industry associations for mandatory business licensing within our sector. Professionalisation is a core pillar of our work, and ensuring that all security businesses operate to recognised standards is essential for the integrity and credibility of our industry.
The current system, which licenses individuals but not businesses, has led to numerous vulnerabilities, including exploitation, tax evasion, and infiltration by organised crime. With an estimated 12,000 untraceable security supply businesses, public safety and economic integrity are at risk.
Business licensing is a vital step towards raising standards, strengthening oversight, and reinforcing trust in private security. This reform aligns with our mission to drive professionalism across the sector, ensuring that security businesses operate responsibly and contribute fairly to the economy.
