EISTEDDFOD TREFEGLWYS 2025
The 108th Eisteddfod was held on Saturday, 4th of October. The adjudicators this year were:
Music - Elen Rhys, Cardiff
Recitation - Gareth Wyn Thomas, Ammanford
Dancing - Ruby Grigg, Newtown
Literature - Arwyn Davies, Groe, Dolanog
Arts and Crafts / Needlework – Pippa Sillitoe, Trefeglwys,
Handwriting – Eryl Douglas Jones, Trefeglwys
The children’s competitions during the afternoon were very well supported, especially by Ysgol Dyffryn Trannon, the local school, with up to twelve competing in several competitions.
The cup for the most promising performer in the afternoon competitions went to Mabon Prys Davies, Llidiart-y-waun, and Mari Wyn Edwards, Y Fan, won the Catrin Alwen shield for the best solo performance. Cadi Davies won the cup in the off-stage competition for her depiction of Countries of the World. Quite an achievement for a pupil in the reception class. Heledd Besent of Aberaeron won the Gwynfryn Evans Trophy for the best musical performance durig the evening.
This year’s president was Professor Neil Evans, the head of Veterinary Research at the University of Glasgow. He spoke about his upbringing in the area at Geseilfa, Llawryglyn, and the importance of the Eisteddfod for nurturing our young people. He was kept busy presenting the cups and awards during the day.
The chair was offered for a poem entitled ‘Returning’ and was won this year by Eifion Daniels from Blaenffos, near Crymyrch. His poem spoke of memories of his childhood home, a Carmarthenshire farm, and his description of taking his grandchildren there.
The accompanists were Fflur Davies, Llidiart-y-waun and Siân Davies, Bridgend with Bethan Lloyd Owen, Anwen Orrells and Gareth Jenkins conducting the proceedings.
