4. We can and do accept criticism where this is fair, and we try our best to learn from our mistakes. We do not host unfair claims or abusive comments. If you have a complaint to make about our organisation, please refer to the Complaints Policy and Procedure on our website.

Wherever you are in the process, whatever difficulties you are having, make our information and support line your first port of call. ☀️ Summer holidays without the stress ☀️

For some adopted children, summer holidays can be a mixed blessing. While the break from school can be welcome, the loss of routine and predictability can sometimes lead to increased anxiety and dysregulation.

Here are three simple ways to make the summer feel more manageable:

✅ Keep some routines in place
You don't need a strict timetable, but predictable anchor points such as regular mealtimes, bedtime routines, or a daily activity can help children feel safe and secure.

✅ Don't underestimate the value of downtime
A successful holiday isn't necessarily a busy one. Balance outings and social activities with quieter days to help your child rest, recover and regulate.

✅ Start preparing early for the return to school
Gradually adjust sleep routines, use simple countdowns, and talk about the new school term in small, manageable ways. A gradual approach often reduces anxiety and makes transitions easier.

FASD and the brain: understanding the ‘can’t’ behind the behaviour.

Many parents and carers of children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) describe feeling exhausted, confused or blamed for behaviours that can seem intentional or oppositional.
