Adoption UK Charity - Cymru To ensure our page is as useful and supportive as possible to the wide and diverse adoption community, we have set out some guidance.

2. We welcome strong views, expressed respectfully. Adoption is complex and evolving and there is a broad range of experiences and opinions, as well as historical and national differences and it is important that everyone is valued and heard.
3. This is a good place to share information. It is important that information is accurate and not misleading and that it does not have the potential to cause distress to others.
4. We can and do accept criticism where this is fair, and we try our best to learn from our mistakes. We do not host unfair claims or abusive comments. If you have a complaint to make about our organisation, please refer to the Complaints Policy and Procedure on our website.

Children should have the opportunity to understand their history, their identity and their journey.

The Adoption Barometer has tracked the quality of life journey materials provided to adopted children in Wales since 2018.

And the picture changed.

In 2018, 55% of Welsh adopters rated their child's life journey materials positively.

We called for improvements.

By 2019, that had risen to 72% — and the upward trend continued.

Alongside this, Welsh Government investment supported the National Adoption Service to improve the quality and availability of life journey materials, including dedicated coordinator roles across all five regions.

The Welsh Government later highlighted improved provision and quality of life journey work as one of the National Adoption Service's key achievements.

For eight years, adopters and adopted people have been telling us what adoption is really like in our annual Adoption Barometer survey.

🗨️More than 27,500 responses.
🗨️Nearly 1,500 adult adoptee responses.

We've seen that evidence translate into action...
✔️Investment in adoption support in Wales.
✔️A stronger focus on life journey work.
✔️The Adoption Support Fund retained in England.
✔️New approaches to contact.
✔️A new FASD standard.
✔️And the Barometer itself built into how Adoption England measures progress.

Over the coming weeks, we'll share some of these stories. Because this isn't just eight years of data, it's eight years of evidence helping to shape change. Thank you to everyone who takes part each year. Your voice matters.
