2. We welcome strong views, expressed respectfully. Adoption is complex and evolving and there is a broad range of experiences and opinions, as well as historical and national differences and it is important that everyone is valued and heard.
3. This is a good place to share information. It is important that information is accurate and not misleading and that it does not have the potential to cause distress to others.
4. We can and do accept criticism where this is fair, and we try our best to learn from our mistakes. We do not host unfair claims or abusive comments. If you have a complaint to make about our organisation, please refer to the Complaints Policy and Procedure on our website.

🚨 New findings from Adoption UK’s reveal that 4 in 10 adoptive families across the UK are facing severe challenges or are at crisis point.

While adoption services are working well in the early stages, too many families struggle to access the long-term support they need as children grow older. The report highlights significant challenges for adopted teenagers, young adults and adult adoptees, with many unable to access appropriate mental health support.

📊 Key findings:
▪️ 4 in 10 adoptive families are facing severe challenges or crisis
▪️ Nearly two-thirds of adopted 16–25-year-olds had negative experiences at school,
▪️ 29% are not in education, employment or training – more than double the national rate in most UK nations
▪️ Many adoptees say support services do not understand how adoption affects them
▪️ Adult adoptees continue to face barriers accessing records, tracing birth relatives and finding adoptee-competent mental health support.

Governments across the UK acknowledge the need for lifelong support for adoptees, but this research highlights a gap between promise and reality.

Adoption UK is calling for a legal duty to provide lifelong, needs-led support so adoptees and adoptive families can access help when they need it, for as long as they need it.

A welcoming space to connect, share experiences and support one another, whether you’re just starting your adoption journey or have been parenting for years. Hosted by Emma, these relaxed monthly sessions are shaped by the conversations and lived experiences of the community 🏳️‍🌈

🌟 Last Friday, during Volunteers Week, we held a well-being event funded by the WCVA CGGC to celebrate our wonderful volunteers. 6 of our volunteers attended in person and were treated to afternoon tea with a view. The volunteers enjoyed getting to know each other and sharing stories.

We had some wonderfully positive feedback from the attendees including:
💬 “Lovely to meet other volunteers. It was a lovely treat and made me feel valued as a volunteer.”
💬 “Thank you for arranging for us to get together. It was a lovely informal gathering and felt like a real treat.”
💬 “Enabled to me to spend time with other volunteers, sharing experiences and building relationships.”
💬 “It was a lovely few hours with like-minded people where we were able to share our stories, offer suggestions to help support our groups and make new friends.”

💛 The volunteers who were unable to join us in-person, were sent a care package in the post to thank them for the time they dedicate to supporting families and individuals in the adoption community in Wales.
