UPDATE 9 April: As part of our ongoing investigation, we are carrying out dye‑tracing work today to confirm the pathway between the source of the pollution and the river.
Members of the public may notice temporarily coloured water in local watercourses. This is expected, non‑toxic and being closely monitored by our officers as part of evidence‑gathering for potential enforcement action.
UPDATE 10:30pm, 6 April: Following investigations today, our officers, working alongside Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, have identified and stopped the source of the fuel pollution affecting the stream in the Pontygwindy area of Caerphilly.
The pollution was traced to a business unit on the Pontygwindy Industrial Estate.
Fuel‑absorbent booms and pads remain in place, with work continuing overnight to contain any remaining pollution.
Our officers will return to the site tomorrow to continue gathering evidence as part of our ongoing investigation and consideration of potential enforcement action.

⚠️ Fuel pollution incident – Caerphilly
We’re investigating a fuel pollution incident affecting a stream in the Pontygwindy area of Caerphilly.
Our investigations so far suggest the source of the pollution is near Howard Drive, Dyfed Drive and Davies Drive in the Churchill Park area.
We’re asking residents to please check for any leaks from fuel tanks or similar sources that could be entering surface water drains.
Fuel‑absorbent booms and pads have been placed to help contain the pollution and we will continue working today to identify the source as quickly as possible.
