- Press Release -
2021 was a memorable year for us all but for Ysgol Rhosgadfan pupils and staff it was a memorable year for a very different reason.
The School was involved in the Ynys Blastig (âPlastic Islandâ) project who created a story in a film format to inspire protecting the natural world. The film was the creation of 5 to 11 year old pupils. It was an adaptation of one of the Mabinogi stories, so was aptly named Blot-deuwedd!
To cap the project, the film was shown to a world-wide audience in the Cop 26 Conference in Glasgow at the end of October 2021.
To celebrate the success much closer to home, the School has arranged a community premier of the film for pupilsâ parents in Galeri, Caernarfon on Friday 21st January 2022. Siân Gwenllian, the Arfon Senedd Constituency Member and Hywel Williams the Member of Parliament for Arfon will both attend and be presented with a very special gift by a delegation of pupils once the film has been shown.
Judith Owen, Ysgol Rhosgadfan Head said, âBeing able to take part in this type of project has been an unforgettable experience for pupils and teachers alike. Definitely these opportunities have succeeded in opening our minds to the contribution of the arts to the schoolâs overall curriculum. The collaboration between staff and professional workers has been extremely invaluable. Being able to offer exciting experiences and formats that encourages pupils to succeed to their full potential is central to the Schoolâs mentality. The initial seed has fully evolved here and continues to thrive and bloom. We are extremely grateful to Ynys Blastig and everyone involved with the projectâ
Iola Ynyr, on behalf of Ynys Blastig project added âThis project has highlighted how a creative mentality can support pupils and staff to be ambitious, durable and collaborative.âBlot-deuweddâ is a film which celebrates the relationship between the arts and the environment and rooted in Welsh culture. Ynys Blastig takes pride in Ysgol Rhosgadfanâs success in promoting individual, community and environmental well-being through creativity.â
A spokesperson on behalf of Galeri said, âIts great to be able to show this particular film in the Galeri and provide a platform for children to share their creative experiences. As a community and social enterprise - we try our best to minimise waste and use of plastic for the benefit of the environment. The work of Ysgol Rhosgadfan is inspirational to us all.â
Ynys Blastig is an arts project that began as a creative commission by Gwynedd Council to reduce the use of plastic and promote well-being.
