The Matthew Hackney Foundation

The Matthew Hackney Foundation It is our purpose that all children and young people are supported, encouraged and given all possible opportunities to achieve their full potential.

We Support Children & young people with their mental health through funded and part funded counselling The Matthew Hackney Foundation began after the sudden passing of Matthew who was a cheeky boy, kept us on our toes, had lots of friends and loved raising money for others that were worse off than himself. We were blessed to have had him in lives, even for such a short while. The charity initially

began raising money for charities and organisations that were close to Matthews heart. Support from you all has been amazing which has allowed us to grow and diversify into what we do today. Like the fabulous song "we believe that children are our future" and deserve the very best chances in life. In this fast paced, ever changing world, the pressures on our children & young people and their care givers are dynamic, diverse and fast-paced. We believe that if we can help those children & young people in need with their mental well-being and resilience, they will have better life chances and be able to grow and develop into the best version of themselves. We provide funded and part funded counselling to children and young people, primarily within their school environment. We are also planning to support parents and carers in a variety of ways so watch this space. "Charity giving link to our fundraising page:

πŸ¦Έβ€β™€οΈ Building confidence, resilience and emotional wellbeing through imagination πŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈ

This summer term, The Matthew Hackney Foundation funded the delivery of the My Imagination Superhero Course in a local nursery and primary school.

Across six weeks, children explored emotions, confidence, bravery and self-regulation through storytelling, movement, mindfulness, visualisation, grounding techniques and creative activities.

The results have been incredibly encouraging.

⭐ Average staff rating of 9.4 out of 10
⭐ 100% of staff would like the course delivered again

Staff reported children:
πŸ’™ Growing in confidence
πŸ’™ Talking more openly about emotions
πŸ’™ Using breathing and grounding techniques independently
πŸ’™ Becoming calmer and more regulated in the classroom
πŸ’™ Developing practical tools to manage worries and challenges

One teacher shared that a child who initially struggled to participate later stood confidently in front of the class to read a story. Others reported children using their "confidence capes", "bravery shields" and emotional regulation tools long after sessions had ended.

Parents also noticed positive changes at home, including children speaking more openly about their feelings, using breathing techniques independently and showing increased confidence.

These are exactly the kinds of early intervention skills that can help children navigate challenges both now and in the future.

A huge thank you to My Imagination, the schools, families and supporters who helped make this possible. πŸ’™

πŸ’™ We're small in size, but BIG in impact πŸ’™

It's Small Charity Week, a national celebration of the incredible difference small charities make in communities across the UK.

At The Matthew Hackney Foundation, we're proud to be a small charity making a big impact for children, young people and families across Surrey.

Over the past year, we've supported more than 200 children and young people, delivered hundreds of counselling sessions, worked in 31 schools and provided early intervention support when it was needed most.

As a small charity, we can respond quickly, build strong relationships and ensure support reaches local families before problems escalate into crisis.

Every counselling session, every workshop, every drop-in conversation and every fundraiser is made possible by the support of our community, volunteers, counsellors, schools, funders and supporters.

Thank you for helping us make a difference.

Because when small charities thrive, communities thrive. πŸ’™

πŸπŸ’™ Why Grassroots Cricket Matters πŸ’™πŸ

At The Matthew Hackney Foundation, we're passionate about supporting organisations that bring communities together, and few do that better than .

Over the years, the club has supported our charity in so many ways, helping us raise funds and awareness so we can continue providing vital mental health support to children, young people and families across Surrey.

Cricket played a huge part in Matthew and his sister Elizabeth's lives and we know first-hand the positive impact grassroots sport can have on young people.

Cricket clubs offer so much more than sport. They provide safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces where children and young people can build confidence, develop friendships, learn teamwork, resilience and communication skills, and enjoy being active outdoors.

For families, they create communities, opportunities to connect, make memories and enjoy time together away from screens.

That's why we're delighted to support Byfleet Cricket Club's upcoming Bottomless Afternoon Tea.
