As part of Volunteers' Week, we were delighted to bring together volunteers and clients from our Befriending Service for a special evening at the Buxton Pump Room

With a fantastic performance from Katy Allan, plenty of singing along and lots of smiles, it was a wonderful opportunity to thank the volunteers who give their time, kindness, and companionship to support people across our community.

The evening also gave many of our clients a rare opportunity to enjoy a night out and spend time together in a welcoming and supportive environment. A few comments from the evening:

Continuing our Volunteers’ Week celebrations, we’re sharing the story of WB, one of our amazing Volunteer Drivers who has been supporting Connex for the past four years!

After a 40-year career, WB wanted to give something back to the local community and help people get to the appointments they need safely and reliably 🚗

💬 WB shares what volunteering means to them, what they enjoy most about the role and why they would encourage others to get involved.

From building positive relationships with regular passengers to seeing the real difference practical support can make, WB’s contribution as a Volunteer Driver is hugely valued.

Our Befriending Coordinators and a group of volunteers recently took part in a fantastic Sight Guide training session delivered by Sarah from Guide Dogs! 👏

The session was interactive, engaging and incredibly insightful. We learned practical techniques for supporting people that live with sight loss, while also gaining a better understanding of the emotional impact and everyday challenges that visual impairment can bring.

As we support several clients with visual impairment, this training will make a real difference, helping us feel more confident and ensuring we can offer the right level of understanding and support when out in the community.

A huge thank you to Sarah for such an informative session and to the Fire Station for letting us use the community room. We’re so grateful for opportunities like this that help us continue supporting our clients in the best way we can!

We are looking for a Wellbeing, Advice and Support Service Coordinator to support residents at the Thomas Fields Independent Living Scheme.

This role helps older adults live well and independently by providing one-to-one advice and guidance, arranging guest speakers and connecting residents with the support they need to feel confident and supported. 💙

Details:
🕒 20 hours per week (Monday–Friday, 9:30am–1:30pm)
📄 Fixed term until 31 March 2027

We are looking for a Home from Hospital Service Coordinator (21.5 hours per week) to join Connex Community Support.

This role supports people leaving hospital or at risk of admission, helping them return home safely and live independently with the right practical, emotional and social support in place.

You’ll work alongside volunteers, partner organisations and Connex services to coordinate support that makes a real difference!

💷 Salary: £30,925 pro rata (£17,970 actual)
