We just wanted to say a big thank you to High Peak Comps for kindly providing some fantastic new games for our Befriending Team’s Quiz & Games Morning at Buxton Community School -

The new games include braille and large print options, helping us make the sessions more accessible! 🎲♟️

Our Quiz & Games Morning is open to Buxton residents aged 65+ who may be feeling lonely or isolated, offering a chance to get together, enjoy games and quizzes that help keep minds active and support fine motor skills, and of course, tea and cake. ☕🍰

It's Loneliness Awareness Week! A campaign hosted by Marmalade Trust that aims to inspire conversations about loneliness and promote connections worldwide 🌏

Our Befriending team sees the impact of loneliness every day, but we also see the difference that friendship and regular company can make. A friendly face, a listening ear and weekly visits make a real difference to the people we support.

Here’s what some of them have have said:

🗨️ “I look forward to my befriender visiting each week. I have something to look forward to.”

🗨️ “We get on so well together. It is good to talk to someone who is just there to talk to me.”

🗨️ “My befriender has given me the courage to get out of the house.”

As Volunteers' Week comes to a close, we want to say one last thank you to all of our volunteers.

Throughout the week we’ve shared just a few of the many stories that reflect the time, care and support that our volunteers give every day.

From befriending and transport, to practical help, wellbeing support and a friendly voice on the phone, our volunteers make a real difference across our services and communities.

As Volunteers' Week draws to a close, we've got one last spotlight to share. Tonight we’re sharing the story of Andrea, one of our amazing Befriending Volunteers who has been supporting people for over 20 years!💙

Andrea started volunteering after seeing a need for support within the community and wanting to give time to people who may be feeling lonely or isolated.

💬 She shares what volunteering means to her, what she enjoys most about the role and the value of the connections built over the years.

From one-to-one conversations and hearing people’s life stories, to building long-term, meaningful relationships, Andrea's contribution as a Befriending Volunteer is hugely valued.
