Connex Community Support

Connex Community Support We are still committed to providing support to those communities, through a range of services.

Helping people make the most of living in their community – empowering people to build resilience, take part in community life and to continue living independently at home Connex Community Support (formerly Buxton Volunteer Centre and Volunteer Centre Derbyshire Dales) was born in 1982 out of a community need to provide support to some of the area’s most vulnerable residents, and we have grown and

expanded over the years to play an invaluable role in the local communities in our area. We work with individuals, other non-profit organisations and charities, statutory bodies and local and national companies to deliver those essential services. Whether it is home care or transport for older people, activities for disabled children and their families, providing a trusted home maintenance service or helping volunteers to find their ideal role, we are there to help.

As part of Volunteers' Week, we were delighted to bring together volunteers and clients from our Befriending Service for a special evening at the Buxton Pump Room

With a fantastic performance from Katy Allan, plenty of singing along and lots of smiles, it was a wonderful opportunity to thank the volunteers who give their time, kindness, and companionship to support people across our community.

The evening also gave many of our clients a rare opportunity to enjoy a night out and spend time together in a welcoming and supportive environment. A few comments from the evening:

πŸ’¬ "It has been so much better than I thought it was going to be, it has been lovely, feels like I've had a real treat."

πŸ’¬ "I've had a lovely evening; it is so good to be part of something so positive."

πŸ’¬ "What a wonderful evening, thank you for organising, I have had such fun."

πŸ’™ A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the evening possible, and to all of our volunteers for everything they do!

Our Befriending Coordinators and a group of volunteers recently took part in a fantastic Sight Guide training session delivered by Sarah from Guide Dogs! πŸ‘

The session was interactive, engaging and incredibly insightful. We learned practical techniques for supporting people that live with sight loss, while also gaining a better understanding of the emotional impact and everyday challenges that visual impairment can bring.

As we support several clients with visual impairment, this training will make a real difference, helping us feel more confident and ensuring we can offer the right level of understanding and support when out in the community.

A huge thank you to Sarah for such an informative session and to the Fire Station for letting us use the community room. We’re so grateful for opportunities like this that help us continue supporting our clients in the best way we can!
