Another fantastic Open Workshop led by Musical Director Joseph Tanner on Thursday evening 27th August. Hosted by Buxton Community Choir we also welcomed several members of Chapel en le Frith Ladies' Choir to the session. Thank you to everyone for taking time out from our Summer break to join us, very well worth it!
After warming up our voices with a mix of "tongue twisters" and scale singing exercises, Joe continued to work on tone, vocal enunciation and blending.
With two new pieces plus a couple of revisited favourites, our main focus of the workshop was working in sectional groups, in unison or harmony, in terms of taking both leading or supporting roles within the music piece.
This involved carefully listening to each other and a sympathetic response vocally within each role.
Using an Appalachian folk tune "Down in The River to Pray", we also tried our hand at experimenting with, and creating our own, vocal harmonies within the framework of the lead tune. Quite a challenge!
By the end of the evening we were well placed to have a final run through of the fun sectional "round" number called "Liverpool Street Station",- where all the sung syllables of the said title dropped nicely into place! 😊
Thanks again Joe.
See you all on Thursday 10th September for the start of our Autumn Season, All are very welcome.
