We want to hear about your experiences using Healthwatch in Greater Manchester and your thoughts on how you give feedback or raise concerns about health and care services.

A new Bill has been published that proposes significant changes to how people’s voices are heard in health and social care. The NHS Modernisation Bill sets out proposals that would abolish Healthwatch and our organisations would end and you would have to share your feedback through the NHS and councils.
It is important to emphasise that these are proposals at this stage. The Bill will go through Parliament and may be subject to amendment before any changes are finalised.
For now, nothing has changed in practice. Local Healthwatch continue to listen to people’s experiences of care, provide information and advice about local services and share feedback and evidence with services to support improvements.

However we are helping the NHS and the Mayor of Greater Manchester to prepare for the future and if Healthwatch does end, what could replace it and what is important about it? We want to hear your views.

Does your child or young person have a health passport? đź“‹

A health passport is a document that helps healthcare professionals understand your child better. It can include information about:

đź’šHow they communicate
đź’šWhat helps them feel safe
đź’š Sensory needs and triggers
đź’š Medical conditions and medications
đź’š Things they may find difficult
đź’š How they express pain or distress

For many families, a health passport can also reduce the need to repeatedly explain their child's needs to different healthcare professionals. Instead of having the same conversations over and over again, important information is available in one place for staff to refer to.

Sharing a health passport before a hospital appointment, admission or emergency visit can help staff provide more personalised care and reduce stress for both your child and your family.

Many NHS trusts provide their own templates, often called a health passport, hospital passport, learning disability passport or communication passport.

If your child/young person doesn't already have one, try searching your local NHS trust's website or asking your GP surgery, learning disability nursing team, paediatrician or hospital for a template.

đź’ˇ Keep a digital copy on your phone so it's always available if you need unexpected medical care.

Has a health passport helped your family? We'd love to hear your experiences in the comments 👇

Bury Families - has your child attended Alternative Provision?

Bury Council is reviewing how Alternative Provision is planned and supported for children and young people (CYP). Alternative provision (sometimes called “AP”) means learning or support that happens additional to or outside of a mainstream school or special school. This might be because of additional SEND needs, mental or physical health needs, exclusion /risk of exclusion or other reasons.

Bury Council has two short surveys (one for CYP and one for parents/carers. The surveys are part of early, pre-engagement work to understand families’ experiences and views before a more formal consultation period.

Your feedback will help shape future discussions and planning.
All responses are voluntary and anonymous. The surveys close on Wednesday 24th June.

Asthma and Autism are separate conditions with different symptoms and challenges.
Managing asthma can involve many practical, sensory, and communication challenges, and that these experiences may be different for autistic people.

Health professionals are developing a research project to help them better understand people's experiences of living with asthma and autism. They hope this will help us to improve patient care.

Individuals will be invited to take part in discussions to share their experiences and views.
This may include:
o Providing your feedback on some areas that could be explored- this will be shared via a power point
o What you think should be explored about living with asthma and autism
o How you think this area should be explored (research approaches)
o If you think this is an area which needs exploring.

They are planning to run sessions on the week of the 22nd June, & 29th June with flexibility to accommodate participants’ needs, including offering
• Small group discussions or one-to-one conversations (based on individual preference)
These can be online or in person (based on individual preference)

Payment
Participants will be reimbursed in line with NIHR INVOLVE guidance:
