West Stow Country Parkrun welcomed 101 Runners supported by 18 incredible volunteers this morning and what a beautiful morning it was! A little chilly to begin with but the sun was shining and it soon warmed up!

We welcomed visitors from Richmond, Kesgrave, Royston, Stowmarket, St Ives, Grantham, Lowestoft, Harling, Harlow, Haverhill, Felixstowe, Newmarket, Shefford, Witham & Leighton.

Special Congratulations to Taryn C for achieving her 50th Volunteer milestone, Mike G and Jade D for their 50th parkrun and Richard U for his 250th parkrun! In addition, we had Isobel and Philip attending to complete the Suffolk parkrun challenge! Well done to you all 👏🏆

West Stow Country Parkrun has been described as a challenging but scenic trail and uneven terrain course. Thank you everyone who supported our event today and we hope that you enjoyed yourselves and made some new friendships.

Car park spaces is plentiful, parking charges - £2 for 2 hours OR £3 all day and all the money goes back to the park for the upkeep and maintenance of the park for our enjoyment.

There's the fabulous Grounds Cafe serving delicious sweet and savoury treats to go with your coffee/matcha/tea after your run/walk.

West Stow Country parkrun - 3rd October 2026 #27

This weekend 75 parkrunners completed West Stow Country’s 27th event, supported by 17 fabulous high viz heroes also known as parkrun volunteers. Many of whom could be seen wearing brightly coloured tutus to celebrate parkruns 22nd Birthday weekend. You may have heard that wearing a tutu on a run improves not only your smile and your personal style but helps guarantee a new personal best time.

Well, 19 parkrunners successfully gained a personal best time this weekend an impressive 25 percent of all the parkrunners on the course. Congratulations to each and every one. Historically, dates starting with 22 are parkrun tutu days, so next year the 22nd of May will be a tutu day.

Congratulations to Aliston Silverback who achieved her 50th parkrun today and to Nicholas Dixon who completed his 25th.

The first finishers were Tommy Banham and Charlotte Olson who finished in 19:48 and 23:28 respectfully, impressive running. Phil Olson and Sally Whitefield achieved the highest age gradings with 80.13% and 79.27% whilst the parkrunniest runners, the male and female who have completed the most parkruns to date were Michael Quantrill and Nadine Heseltine who have finished 563 and 538 parkruns so far.

Sat 10 Oct 2026 Run Report - A Tail Walker perspective

I had the chance to experience every inch of the course at a slower pace today and fully appreciate just how much there is to see around this beautiful route.

One of the first landmarks on the course is The Pump House, built in 1887 and operational for around 70 years. It's a great point of interest as you make your way through the opening section of the course.

Next comes the river path, where runners and walkers travel alongside the River Lark. This has to be one of the most picturesque sections of any parkrun course, with beautiful views and a real sense of tranquillity. In truth, the entire route is impressive, but this stretch is particularly memorable.

As you leave the river path, the eagle-eyed may spot the Beast Grendel peering through the trees. This is part of the wonderful Beowulf & Grendel Trail, which adds a sense of adventure to the Country Park. The trail also includes the Beowulf carving, Anglo-Saxon ship, the Lair of Grendel's Mother, the Heath Dragon and the Burnt Hall, making it a fantastic attraction for all.

The course then takes you past the Anglo-Saxon Village, excavated in the 1960s and 1970s and incorporated into West Stow Country Park in 1978.

After passing through a gate, runners and walkers head alongside the Neolithic Ring Ditch, where the cremated remains of men, women and children were buried more than 5,000 years ago. Amazing that a Saturday morning parkrun passes through an area with such deep historical significance.

Before reaching the second gate, there was another highlight of the morning. The four resident rams, perhaps wisely avoiding the passing crowds, had taken shelter beneath a nearby tree, but were still close enough to be spotted.

The route then enters the woodland trail, another stunning section of the course. With soft ground underfoot, tree roots and winding paths through the trees, it's a beautiful area to run or walk through.

Emerging from the woodland, participants pass the Visitor Centre, Museum, Shop and Café, where a well-earned coffee and slice of cake await after the finish.

From there, it's back across open ground before repeating the loop once more. Such is the beauty of the course that it genuinely feels like you could complete lap after lap and never tire of the surroundings.

Today marked the 28th event at this glorious location and welcomed 109 walkers and runners. We were delighted to host 58 tourists, while three participants completed their very first parkrun. None of this would have been possible without our 11 fantastic volunteers, and we thank every one of them for giving their time this morning.

I may be biased, and you'd probably be right, but West Stow Country Park is the most beautiful parkrun I have completed. Whether you choose to walk, run or volunteer, I'd encourage everyone to make this wonderful event part of their Saturday morning routine.

Happy Birthday to parkrun! 🥳🎊 This weekend marks 22 years of parkrun!

Run Report - Event #26 on 26th September 2026

Today marked a special one-off route due to a temporary path closure so it was great to see 156 participants turn up for the occasion.

On a bright and surprisingly warm morning, with everyone gathered together like a flock of sheep the briefing began. There were special milestones for Nigel celebrating his 50th volunteer and Daniel his 20th volunteer, shepherded by his mum as always! Jan, Liz, Robert, Edward, Betty, Mark, and Philip all completed their first ever parkrun, welcome to the family and congratulations all.

The tourists were out in force, 78 in total with people from Corby, Lowestoft, Stowmarket, Swaffham, Huntingdon, Bedford, Wiltshire, Mildenhall, March, Ely, Panshanger and Cambridge, great to host you and hope you enjoyed your morning.

There were 71 participants who have previously attended, thanks for returning and we hope everyone keeps coming back.

18 Volunteers made this event possible so a massive thank you to Ali, Andrea, Charlotte, Chris, Daniel, David, Harry, James, Jo, Karl, Luke, Mark, Mel, Nigel, Pamela, Paul, Taryn and Tina!

The briefing ended after a description of the new route by the RD, hoping everything would run smoothly with no lost runners, or unexpected wildlife encounters and the event began; off everyone went!

As runners and walkers crossed the finish line over the next hour, there were lots of happy faces with a sense of achievement well deserved. Plenty of people remained to cheer on others and socialise which is what we love at parkrun.

A massive thank you to everyone who walked, ran, volunteered and cheered from the sidelines. Another great event completed. Hope to see as many of you again in the near future.
