of nature. Started in 1989, and with a core ethos around preservation of our natural
environment, the charity delivers a variety of courses, workshops and

๐ŸŒฟ Introducing Step Up at Green Light Trust ๐ŸŒฟ

Weโ€™re pleased to share more about our Step Up programme โ€“ a supportive, engaging day service designed for young people and adults (16+) who are ready to take the next step towards greater independence ๐Ÿ’š

Step Up is perfect for individuals who:
โœ… Want to build confidence and life skills
โœ… Are ready to engage more independently
โœ… Enjoy being active, outdoors and part of their community.

Our participants take part in a wide range of meaningful activities, including:

๐ŸŒฑ Nature-based sessions in our woodlands and gardens
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Social enterprise projects (crafts, woodworking, seasonal products)
๐Ÿค Work experience and volunteering opportunities
๐ŸŽฏ Personal goal-setting with dedicated key worker support

There are no set timeframes โ€“ everyone progresses at their own pace, building skills, confidence and real-life experience in a supportive environment.

โœจ Step Up is all about empowering individuals to move forward, make choices, and feel part of their community.

Supporting wellbeing through partnership in our G8 courtyard ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š

Regular wellbeing sessions are taking place for adults with additional needs in the G8 courtyard at West Suffolk Hospital, delivered in collaboration with Green Light Trust.

During the sessions, participants spend time outdoors carrying out light gardening activities such as weeding and trimming.

This helps to build confidence, enhance independence and support overall wellbeing.

The group attends as part of Green Light Trustโ€™s Step by Step day provision, supporting adults with learning disabilities through meaningful, person-centred activities.

๐Ÿ‘‹ You may spot the group in the courtyard during their sessions.

May is National Walking Month!

If you're out for a walk this weekend, there's lots to observe in nature around this time of year as spring moves towards summer.

You might see hawthorn blossom in the hedgerows, cow parsley along the verges, and plenty of bird activity as nesting season is in full swing.

Keep your eyes peeled for bees and butterflies too as the warmer weather brings them out ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ‹

What have you spotted on your walks lately? Let us know ๐Ÿ‘‡

Itโ€™s Mental Health Awareness Week, and this yearโ€™s theme is 'action'.

One simple form of action that can support mental health is spending time in nature. Research shows that around 120 minutes a week outdoors is linked with better health and wellbeing.

Here are a few simple ways to take action this week:

๐Ÿ’š Spend time outside each day, even just a short walk or sitting in a green space
๐Ÿ’š Notice what is around you using your senses
๐Ÿ’š Take a break from screens and step outside for fresh air
๐Ÿ’š Do one small thing that helps you feel calmer or more grounded

How will you take action this week? Let us know in the comments ๐Ÿ‘‡

We were pleased to welcome British Sugar to The Foundry last week ๐ŸŒฑ

A big thank you to them for kindly supporting our horticulture project by supplying soil to fill our beds and planters.

Our Step by Step participants gave them a tour of the site and learnt more about how sugar beet is processed.

We also discovered that the soil comes from the beet washing process and is refined into a reusable growing medium, with around 100,000 tonnes produced each year.

Weโ€™re very grateful for their generous support and look forward to welcoming them back again soon ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š

Today is National Children's Day ๐Ÿ’š

It's a day to celebrate childhood, children's rights, and recognise the importance of making every child feel safe, happy and valued.

At Green Light Trust, we work with children aged 7+ who may be struggling in mainstream education, helping them build resilience, learn new skills and improve their confidence.

Through woodland-based activities and connecting with nature, our programmes help children and young people to feel supported, empowered, and able to thrive. ๐ŸŒฑ
