This Pride Month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and vibrant diversity of LGBTQ+ individuals and communities everywhere.

At Restitute, we believe everyone deserves to feel safe, valued, and free to be themselves. Pride is a time to celebrate identity, love, and progress, while also recognising the importance of continuing to build a world where everyone can live with equality, dignity, and opportunity.

We are proud to provide a welcoming, supportive and safe space where our clients can be their authentic selves without fear of judgment. We strive to create an environment where people feel heard, respected, and empowered.

This Pride Month and beyond, we stand alongside LGBTQ+ communities and reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, human rights, and treating every individual with the respect and compassion they deserve.

When you’re caring for someone who has experienced crime, finding time for yourself can feel almost impossible. Things like getting enough sleep, exercising, staying connected to others, or even eating well may seem out of reach. But by implementing small, manageable changes you can make a real difference over time.

Perseverance is key. Supporting the people you care for to build routines and maintain a sense of control in their day can play a hugely significant role in their long-term recovery.

Slow down, take one day at a time and be kind to yourself. Your mental health and wellbeing matter too and even the smallest steps can help you to move forward.

The devastation felt in the aftermath of abuse, violent crime, and other serious traumatic events can be far-reaching. For family members and loved ones who are left supporting a survivor while trying to maintain a “normal” routine, life can feel completely overwhelming.

It’s important to remember that you’re not alone, and that no one has all the answers, and that’s okay.

What matters is that you are open to learning what works for you and yours. Asking, and seeking help is such an important aspect of caring for your loved ones and together we can figure out how to move forward, one step at a time.

Violent crime can leave lasting, debilitating effects on those directly affected, with poor mental health often being one of the most significant consequences. At Restitute, we support third-party victims and recognise that the impact of trauma extends beyond the individual to these forgotten victims too.

Mental health challenges don’t only affect individuals; they often deeply affect families, carers, and loved ones as well. If you are supporting someone who has experienced a serious sexual or violent crime, your mental health and wellbeing matters too.

As May marks Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to open conversations about the wide-reaching effects of these crimes and the importance of making support available for everyone impacted.

If a child or young person tells you something is wrong, how you respond matters.

Try to stay calm. Listen carefully. Believe them and tell them that you believe what they are telling you. Reassure them they’ve done the right thing by speaking up. Let them know it’s not their fault, and explain that you’ll help to keep them safe.

Don’t promise to keep it a secret. Don’t question them for details or confront anyone involved. Report any concerns as soon as possible so they can get the right support.
You can find more details on what to do next on the NSPCC website.

Every child deserves to be listened to, to be believed, and to be protected. 💜

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

The signs of child abuse aren’t always clear, and many children may not feel able to speak out about what’s happening to them. In some cases, they may not even realise that what they are experiencing is abuse.

Child abuse can take many forms, and the signs can vary depending on the type. For instance, indicators of neglect may look very different from signs of sexual abuse. Age also plays a role, for example, a toddler may show different warning signs compared to a teenager.

Raising awareness of these potential signs is vital in helping to protect children and prevent abuse. Please trust your instincts, speak up and take action. Every child deserves to feel safe and we all need to play our part in protecting them.
