This Thursday and for one night only, BTW have facilitated this production written by local pro actor, Madhav Sharma, working with renowned international director Nicholas Barter, ‘No, I’m not Ian McKellen’. With set and FX by Tim Lodge.

Fans of Eastenders will recognise Madhav, and he was lately in the film ‘Conclave’!

Madhav will be relating his early life in India to his later experiences in Suffolk and in the world of English professional theatre. He is a passionate Shakespeare enthusiast and you’ll hear him recite numerous well known extracts from plays, most of which BTW have produced at some stage or another!

Please come and support us if you can. Also, it’s nice and cool in the theatre...! 😉

We are thrilled that “No I Am Not Ian McKellen” is one of Eastern Angles contributions to the brand new In the Works festival, debuting in Ipswich this Thursday 28th May!

A solo performance by an award-winning British actor of Indian ancestry and descent, directed by a distinguished British Director, this production tells the unique tale of how a boy from Bharat (India), whose mother-tongue is not English, felt impelled to come to live and work in Blighty (a Sanskrit word meaning literally ‘Over the Seas’), finding home in East Anglia, and the part played by The Bard (William Shakespeare) in this extraordinary adventure.

Serendipity, the power of language, the travails of being an outsider as an immigrant, the universality of human emotion, outrageous fortune & the kindness of strangers, promises a joyous, thought-provoking , unique theatrical experience laced with humour, compassion, and unexpected insights.

7-9 May 2026
7.30pm (+ 2pm Saturday matinee)
Quay Theatre, Sudbury, Suffolk

When a young Lord Arthur is told by a palm-reader (of questionable veracity) that during his life, he is to commit a murder, he decides he must do this before his wedding day, in order to marry his fiancee with a clear conscience! Not the brightest of aristocrats, what follows is a hilarious range of failed attempts by Arthur on the lives of his family members, all with the guidance of his faithful butler, Baines.

Old fashioned silliness to put a smile on your face and a spring in your step!
