It wasn’t to be for OC Henry Patten and his tennis doubles partner Harri Heliövaara at the French Open this weekend.

The pair lost out on the title in the final at Roland Garros, having not dropped a set all tournament.

Despite the disappointment, Patten told BBC Sport that, "It's the first time we have ever made a Roland Garros final, so that's a big positive and something to be proud of.”

This morning the ATP rankings have been updated; Henry and Harri are joint world number ones in men’s doubles.

Best of luck for the rest of the year from all of us at Culford.

Next month our very own Samantha is taking on a momentous challenge.

She will be taking part in the Dart10k which is widely considered to be the finest marathon-distance outdoor swim.

The beauty of the River Dart can only properly be experienced from the water and this big swim challenge from Sharpham Bathing House to Dartmouth has an incredible atmosphere. Swimmers come from all over the UK and all over the world to tick it off their bucket list.

Samantha is raising funds for Level Water, a charity that uses the power of swimming to improve lives for children with disabilities. Everyone should have the opportunity to learn to swim and fall in love with the water.

If you would like to support Samantha, please visit her JustGiving page. https://www.justgiving.com/page/samantha-salisbury-5?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL

Congratulations to OCs Holly Richley (2021-2025), Elizabeth Gawthorpe (2017-2025) and Ellena Lond-Caulk (2018-2025), and current Sixth Form students Sophia C and Evie H, who attended a very special celebration at Buckingham Palace last month in recognition of completing their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

The event was hosted by HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, who delivered an inspiring speech recognising the dedication, resilience and commitment shown by all Gold Award recipients. They also had the opportunity to hear from broadcaster Jake Humphrey, adding to what was an unforgettable day.

The Gold DofE Award is a remarkable accomplishment, requiring perseverance, teamwork, and a strong sense of determination. Well done all!

Have you got any memories from your DofE days at Culford?

Huge congratulations to OC Sally‑Ann Spence (1982–1991) and the Hawkstone Farmers’ Choir on their incredible win in the Britain’s Got Talent final on Saturday. What an extraordinary achievement!

Having performed their own original song in the final, they are the first choir to win in the 19-year history of BGT.

came together to support mental health charities in rural and farming communities by raising awareness and funds. Feelings of hopelessness, isolation, depression and emotional exhaustion can leave people feeling trapped but support, understanding and compassionate conversation can change lives.

Every single person in the choir has lost friends or family who could not see a way forward. It was clear from their performance that they sang from the heart, in memory of them all.

Sally‑Ann continues to inspire as a science educator, presenter, entomologist, ecologist and farmer through Berrycroft Hub and Dung Beetles for Farmers, and now as part of a truly unforgettable BGT‑winning moment.

Last weekend a team of Old Culfordians competed in the Grafton Morrish regional finals at Gog Magog Golf Club.

This annual golf tournament for alumni started in 1962, with Culford as one of the founding members.

The OCs came 7th out of 20 schools in the Eastern region, qualifying for the national finals which will be held at Royal West Norfolk and Hunstanton Golf Clubs, 16-18 October.

Thanks to Jeremy Nunn (1967-1977) for organising and leading the team: Ralph Evans (1988-1997), Ben Mason (2019-2023), Ben Whittaker (2006-2016), Max Whittaker (2006-2018), Tom Auchterlonie (2017-2019) and Jess Walters (2008-2019).

Huge thanks to Lees Tees and owner Jeremy H. Lee (1948-1956) for supporting the OC team once again.
