Bradfield woods is a working wood that is unique as it has been under continuous traditional coppice management since 1252, fulfilling local needs for firewood and hazel products. Coppicing is a traditional method of woodland management where stems are cut at ground level promoting vigorous re-growth. Some Ash coppice stools in Bradifeld Wood are thought to be over 1000 years old. Suffolk Wildlife Trust began in 1961 with a group of naturalists concerned about the future of Redgrave & Lopham Fen. Since then the Trust has gone from strength to strength and today is proud to be the county’s leading conservation organisation. Our nature reserves are open for you to enjoy and explore whenever you wish. There is no charge - instead we ask you to help us maintain them by becoming a member of Suffolk Wildlife Trust. Action for local wildlife, led by local people has always been Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s great strength. When our Senior Wilder Training office was invited to run some workshops on Pathways to nature connection and wellbeing at Suffolk County Council's EYFS outdoor conference at Lackford Lakes, she jumped at the chance.
It was a beautiful day, and after a fantastic keynote speech about Forest School by Marie Charles, Jo led groups onto the reserve, discovering The Wild apothecary (from Kindling: Playwork, Training, Forest Schools and creative workshops ) and activities to support the 5 pathways to nature connection.

That's why we're on a mission to save Suffolk's hedgehogs, and we need your help.

Whether at home, school, work, or in your community, there are simple actions we can all take to help. By creating hedgehog-friendly spaces and championing our spiky friends, we can work together to secure a future for hedgehogs in Suffolk.
