These two delightful young ladies turned up at our meeting today. It was what the YMCA term as “Thankathon Week” just popping into those organisations such as ours who support their cause. What a wonderful idea, and much appreciated. Shown here with President Peter Groves.

A group of eight volunteer Rotarians and helpers were at Burton Station at 9.00am last Thursday to receive and plant more than 370 plants in the troughs and tubs. The previous week everything was weeded and prepared so the brief was, to get the plants from the lorry from the top of the station down to the platforms, plant them and water.

The usual procedure is to wheel the trolley with all of the plants on into the lift and wheel it down the platform to the troughs. Unfortunately the lift had failed and engineers were on their way so they had to empty the lorry onto the parking area and then carry them down to where they wanted them. In spite of this the work proceeded well and it was finished about 11.30am.

The lift engineer had a problem as well as he got stuck in the lift and had to wait for another engineer, it was working when they left but didn't see any of the group chancing it.
So well done team, despite your difficulties. Looking very colourful too.

We were joined today by the Rev Graham Maskery, Farmer, Magistrate and Priest. (Seen here With Rotarian David Roberts on the left) He told us in great detail how he’s been ‘living the dream’ throughout his many guises and varied career. He is a Rotarian who has an extremely positive look on life, and amused us with his anecdotes. An excellent speaker, who, due to dyslexia finds it difficult to put pen to paper, but has a natural ability to deliver his message with professional aplomb and convey straight from the heart without the use of notes or prompts.

⚙️ Did you know that the Rotary family spans generations? 🌍✨
Whether you are a seasoned professional, a young adult launching your career, or a student looking to make a difference, there is a place for you to create positive change in the world.
Here is a quick breakdown of the three incredible pillars that make up the Rotary network:
1️⃣ Rotary 💼🤝
The foundation of it all. Rotary is a global service organization of business and professional leaders. Together, members provide life-changing humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards across all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace worldwide.
2️⃣ Rotaract 🚀🌱
Designed for young adults (ages 18+), Rotaract brings members together to develop leadership and professional skills. They serve their local communities and promote international peace and understanding side-by-side with Rotary International.
3️⃣ Interact 🎒🌟
Where the journey begins! Interact is a service and social club for young people ages 12 to 18. It’s the perfect space for students to develop leadership skills, discover the power of volunteering, and make a real impact locally and globally.
💙 One vision, three ways to make a difference. No matter your age or stage in life, you can be part of a global movement dedicated to "Service Above Self."

A few of us on our pleasant walk around Sudbury today, arranged by Rotarian Jamie Winstone who directed us to the Vernon Arms afterwards for a tasty lunch and delicious liquid accompaniment. Not of course, forgetting the great company. Andy and Venessa Archer decided to start their imbibing early so waited in the pub for our return, I’m sure it was worth it.

Last Thursday 7th May, Rotarians Mel Thomas and President Peter Groves met with Uttoxeter Waitrose store Manager Peter Gibbs and Community Lead Angela Cocke, and gratefully accepted a cheque on behalf of Burton Rotary Club for £500. This was kindly given by Waitrose as a donation to Mel’s project for the Burton hospital packs. The packs are donated by Burton Rotary to the discharge unit in aid to restock patient’s supplies when leaving hospital. Well done Mel for your hard work, and thank you Waitrose.
