The Free Town Trust

The Free Town Trust Founded in 2006 we assist vulnerable children, young people & those with disability in Sri Lanka. Every £ reaches our recipients. UK Charity No 1208022

A small charity with a big impact, we give hope & opportunity for a better, more sustainable future. The Free Town Trust is a UK based registered charity (Registration Number: 1208022) which was set up in 2006 to support children and families living in poverty in the Malindi area of Kenya. Since then several thousand pounds has been raised and all the money has gone directly to those in need. The

funding has provided food, clothing, housing, education and vocational resources and training, emergency medical treatment, start up businesses and even a bike! In 2006 the founder, Sarah Parry, started working directly with Blessed Generation Childrens' Centre. Following several trips to Kenya, Sarah gauged the types of things which needed funding. The Free Town Trust has directly supported 8 pupils since 2006 as well as regular donations to provide food and items such as mosquito nets and medical supplies. In January 2017 the charity work extended to Sri Lanka. Support was given to Yasodara Girls' Orphanage in Galle and in 2019 a partnership with Karuna Sri Lanka, an Australian charity who have been supporting children in Sri Lanka since the 2002, was established and is thriving. Between these two charities, funding is provided to individual children and young women, educational/vocational organisations and vulnerable children and adults. The provision of food, medical supplies and sanitary items, education/training and resources, transport and housing are amongst the variety of support which is available. Our ethos remains to give practical help and to encourage independence and sustainability for those we assist. Many lives have been enhanced over the years, and in some cases lives have been saved. None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors and followers. To make a donation you can:

Another good news story!
This time last year we were put in touch with the Rashmisara family and with your donations we have been able to assist them throughout 2025.

Mr Rashmisara had a very bad accident at work, has now undergone several operations and this week he is undergoing another. We are happy to have been able to send money for medication, Drs appointments and crucially the funds the family needed to start a mushroom farm! The business has gone from strength to strength and even expanded a few months ago.

We continue to pay for the transport costs for their 3 daughters to attend school. All 3 girls are doing very well.

Once again our thanks to Jayani, our coordinator, who makes all this happen. And also to John and June from for their frequent visits and feedback. It’s very much appreciated 🙏🏽

UPDATE: over the last few days we’ve been able to send out more provisions to one of the villages cut off by landslides. This time dried food, towels and bedding to families who have lost their homes and belongings.

We send huge thanks to our coordinator Jayani, and all the hard working staff and volunteers from Sacred Heart school who continue to work to reach as many families as they can. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. 🙏🏽

Update:

Yesterday we got news that the food parcels we assisted with have reached the villagers who have been cut off due to the floods.

An amazing effort by all involved, especially the lorry driver who navigated several roads blocked by landslides.

The families also received emergency clothing and water.

Our coordinator has been in touch this morning and our next donation has been sent. We will be assisting with bedding and towels next and I will keep you posted as I get news through.

If you can make a donation (and I do realise not everyone can) the link is in the bio if you’re reading this on Instagram.

Folks, once again a huge thank you to all of you who donated. As I write this the lorry is on its way to the Gampola area. A difficult journey I’m told so please keep those involved in your thought and prayers.

Sri Lankans have once again rallied to help each other and have mobilised many volunteers. We are thankful to our local coordinators for their tireless work.

A terrible disaster for thousands of people who have lost everything. We count our blessings. 🥹

You can still donate by using the link in the bio if you’re reading this on Instagram.

Update: Birthday fundraiser 🥰
Huge thanks to everyone who donated to my birthday fundraiser, back in June, which raised £480 in total. Wow 🤩

What did we do with it? We bought new shoes for all the girls at Moravinna Orphanage and also some food items and treats. A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated.

Thanks also to our partner charity, Karuna Sri Lanka for all the logistics; getting the shoe sizes, going shopping and then delivering them along with some treats for the children.

Every penny you donate reaches the children we support. With your help we are making real differences to these children’s prospects.

Watch this space………. For our next appeal which may involve mattresses and bedding 🛌 🤔
