VE Day 80 – A Heartfelt Thank You
Hold on to your hats, this is going to be a long one!
As the bunting comes down and we reflect on an incredible week of events commemorating VE Day 80, we want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped make it so special.
To our sponsors - East Staffordshire Borough Council, Tutbury Parish Council, Tutbury Arts Group, Tutbury Civic Society and Cosy - we really appreciate your generosity.
A special thank you to Tutbury Museum for getting involved and bringing history to life so brilliantly & the Ye Olde Dog & Partridge for hosting.
Let’s also give a big cheer for our fantastic performers and entertainers, who filled Sunday's Street Party with energy and joy. And to ATL for providing the trailer for our stage.
To the committee (and your long-suffering partners), we see all the effort you put in. We appreciate every late night, last-minute checklist, thousands of WhatsApp messages, and the heavy lifting of tables and chairs after everyone has gone home. Thank you!
We also want to express our gratitude to The Priory Church of St Mary’s Tutbury for your support and for being such a lovely venue for Thursday’s commemorative concert.
Thank you to the Duchy of Lancaster for granting us special permission to light a beacon at the castle, following this cherished tradition. And thanks to the Tutbury Scouts for building an amazing beacon, along with all the flags, bunting, gazebos, tables and chairs.
A shout-out to Tutbury Band and the Waterloo Pipers for adding some wonderful pomp and reverence to Thursday night.
We’d also like to recognise the local shops, pubs, clubs, and bars that got involved, dressed up, and put on additional events. You really captured the spirit of the 1940s.
To the walk planners, route finders, and the farmers who kindly allowed us access to their land for the village walk on Monday, thanks, The Leopard - Tutbury and The Cross Keys. pubs for helping connect the day with our local community with bacon butties, baked potatoes, beer and good cheer!
Finally, a big thank you to everyone in the village who came out to dance, sing, and wave flags as if it were 1945.
It was a week filled with pride, remembrance, and togetherness. We couldn’t have asked for more.
Thank you all!
