World Stroke Day is coming up — Wednesday 29th October.

This year, we’re celebrating the power of community with the theme:
“Community makes recovery possible — share, connect, and support.”

We’ll be sharing real stories, practical advice, and reflections from stroke survivors across the UK — showing how connection and peer support can make all the difference after stroke.

You can get involved too.
We’re offering free leaflet packs (in bundles of 10) to help raise awareness in your local area.
Each pack includes:

- Our general Different Strokes flyer
- Information on joining a DS support group
- Details about our befriender service for survivors under 25
- Information for Black and South Asian communities
- Our Bursary Fund flyer

Order here: https://buff.ly/HWlBVeW

Take them to your local GP, hospital, community centre or event and help spread the word that younger stroke survivors are not alone.

Orders placed by Thursday 23rd October will arrive in time for World Stroke Day, but we’ll continue sending them out throughout November too.

Keep an eye on our socials on the day for stories, advice, and ways to get involved — and don’t forget to share your own experiences using and

Staying Safe in the Heat – Advice for Stroke Survivors

Hot weather can be tough on our bodies – and if you’re recovering from a stroke, you may be more sensitive to heat or dehydration. Here are some simple tips to keep safe and comfortable during the heatwave:

💧 Stay Hydrated – Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Keep a bottle nearby as a reminder.

🏠 Stay Cool Indoors – Keep blinds or curtains closed during the hottest part of the day (11am–3pm). Use a fan if you have one.

👒 Limit Time Outside – If you need to go out, try early morning or evening when it’s cooler. Wear loose, light-coloured clothing and a hat.

🥗 Eat Light – Smaller, more frequent meals can help you feel cooler. Include hydrating foods like cucumber, melon, and lettuce.

🛋 Listen to Your Body – Fatigue, dizziness, headaches, or confusion can be signs of heat exhaustion. Rest in a cool place and sip water.

If you experience sudden confusion, vision changes, weakness, or speech difficulties, call 999 immediately.

Take care of yourself, check in on others, and let’s get through the heatwave safely.

Feeling isolated after stroke? You're not alone — and you don’t have to go through recovery on your own. Our Virtual Meetings are open to all younger stroke survivors and take place twice a month on Zoom. They're a welcoming space where you can talk openly with people who understand, share experiences, ask questions, or simply listen in.

There’s no pressure to speak or have your camera on — just join in whatever way feels most comfortable for you. Whether you're navigating physical recovery, adjusting emotionally, or struggling to feel seen, these meetings offer real peer support from others who get it. Many participants tell us it's a highlight of their month.

The next virtual meetings for stroke survivors will take place on:
Tuesday 12 August at 1.30pm
Wednesday 27 August at 11.30am
Monday 8 September at 2pm
Wednesday 24 September at 11am
