Just finished the ethical discussion of The Long Goodbye with .

Please share the video by NHS Scotland to start to change the stigma around dementia https://www.nhsinform.scot/campaigns/rethink-dementia/

Look out for the recording where Maxine Linnellshares her thoughtful and constructive views on how to change the discrimination that 88% of people diagnosed and living with dementia feel.

When a friend or relative is diagnosed with dementia, it’s natural not to know what to do. But, helping someone stay connected and socially active can help them stay well for longer. It’s time to rethink dementia.

😱 Shocking Ignorance on Dementia and Ageism in Health and Care

On Friday I attended the Alzheimer's Disease International
webinar hosted by Paola Barbarino for the release of the World Alzheimer's Report-2024. Lots of shocking facts, but perhaps the worst is 65% of health and care professionals believe dementia is a normal part of ageing.

If this is the case how can somebody who is concerned or diagnosed with dementia feel they are being given the support they need for their illness from health and care professionals?

What does this say about Ageism in health and care ?

I remember a brave GP standing at one of the first Alzheimer's Society Conferences, way back in 2014, and saying she "didn't feel she should be the first point of contact as she had been trained to prescribe medicines and as there were no medicines to prescribe for dementia, how could she support somebody with dementia".

Should our GP's really be the primary point of contact for dementia in the UK?

Could a diagnosis of dementia occur through a different process?

Could people make their own appointments for an assessment at a memory clinic and not waste their time and that of GP's?

Given the voices of people diagnosed and living with dementia aren't listened too, acknowledged or trusted who can deliver effective training to our health and care professionals?

I absolutely think it's time to rethink the way we support the dementia community hashtag .

What would you do?
