Burton Memorial Hall is the village hall for Burton-in-Kendal, Cumbria. A registered charity, the Hall is run by a voluntary management committee and provides facilities for a wide range of users, social groups, sports, arts, educational and other activities for all ages. Built in the 1950s, the Hall is now in need of substantial renovation and upgrading, so we need to raise a considerable amount of money to pay for the work. A programme of fund-raising activities and events is being planned, and we hope that everyone will come along and support these and help us to provide a venue suitable for the needs of 21st century users. UPDATE: THE SOUTH END DOOR LOCK HAS NOW BEEN REPAIRED SO THE DOOR IS BACK IN ACTION. Thank you to those hirers who read the notice and avoided using the door during this time.

All hirers and hall users: there is a problem with the south end door lock at the hall so we have put notices on each side of it to say do not unlock it.

Anyone using the hall must only use the north end door until the problem is resolved.

Monday 5th October sees our talk on The Longest Yarn, by Rosie Fielder. This fascinating exhibition is currently touring the UK (it will be at Astley Hall, Chorley in November).

A huge 80 metre long series of panels, the story of Britain at War, covering World War 2 from September 1939 until 1945, all depicted in 3D knitted and crocheted dioramas.

The amount of work that went into creating the panels and assembling them is phenomenal, the panels were created by volunteers, and it follows on from The Longest Yarn: D-Day - the first 80 metre display, which is currently on tour in Northern Ireland, and then will come over to England in 2027.

Do come along and hear all about this fascinating art work and meet Rosie Fielder, the only Cumbrian to work on it.

Doors open at 7.15pm, admission is £2.50 per person, which includes tea or coffee and biscuits. Talk begins at 7.30pm prompt.

Our next Welcome to Burton Day will be on Saturday 17th October, from 10am until 12noon. Come along and meet the groups who run activities in the village, see what goes on, and perhaps find something new to join in with.

We will have our delicious home-made cakes on offer, along with hot and cold drinks, our HUGE used bookstall, and Kevin Preston's Autumn Plant Stall will all be in the main hall, plus we'll have Kingsharp with us in the car park to sharpen your blunt things. Do please join us!
