Burry Port RNLI was tasked to an incident on Monday 8th of June with both lifeboat crews being paged immediately at 22:33 following reports of two persons in difficulty in the water.
The station’s D Class Inshore Lifeboat ‘Williams and Cole’ and Atlantic 85 ‘The Misses Barrie’ were promptly launched in extremely challenging sea and weather conditions. Both crews made best possible speed to the reported location, covering an extensive search area from Pembrey Country Park through to Carmarthen Bay Holiday Park.
The call originated from reports of a person being seen dragging another individual from the water in the vicinity of The Paul shipwreck, prompting immediate concern and the initiation of a coordinated multi-agency search and rescue operation.
In addition to the RNLI lifeboats, Rescue Helicopter 924 was tasked to the scene, providing aerial search capabilities. Teams from Burry Port Coastguard Rescue Team and Llansteffan Coastguard Rescue Team were deployed to conduct shoreline searches, while Dyfed-Powys Police also attended and supported the wider response.
Crews faced extremely difficult conditions on scene, including poor sea state and adverse weather, which made the search operation particularly demanding. Despite these challenges, all assets worked together effectively, carrying out a thorough search of the reported area.
After an extensive search and upon further assessment of the situation, all units were stood down at 23:54. Both lifeboats returned safely to station and were subsequently recovered within Burry Port Harbour, where they were made ready again for service.
All crew members involved in the incident returned safely.
Burry Port RNLI would like to extend sincere thanks to all those involved in the response. This incident highlights the professionalism, dedication, and resilience of volunteer lifeboat crews and emergency service partners, particularly when operating in such difficult and testing conditions.
