Burry Port RNLI was tasked to an incident on Monday 8th of June with both lifeboat crews being paged immediately at 22:33 following reports of two persons in difficulty in the water.
The station’s D Class Inshore Lifeboat ‘Williams and Cole’ and Atlantic 85 ‘The Misses Barrie’ were promptly launched in extremely challenging sea and weather conditions. Both crews made best possible speed to the reported location, covering an extensive search area from Pembrey Country Park through to Carmarthen Bay Holiday Park.
The call originated from reports of a person being seen dragging another individual from the water in the vicinity of The Paul shipwreck, prompting immediate concern and the initiation of a coordinated multi-agency search and rescue operation.
In addition to the RNLI lifeboats, Rescue Helicopter 924 was tasked to the scene, providing aerial search capabilities. Teams from Burry Port Coastguard Rescue Team and Llansteffan Coastguard Rescue Team were deployed to conduct shoreline searches, while Dyfed-Powys Police also attended and supported the wider response.
Crews faced extremely difficult conditions on scene, including poor sea state and adverse weather, which made the search operation particularly demanding. Despite these challenges, all assets worked together effectively, carrying out a thorough search of the reported area.
After an extensive search and upon further assessment of the situation, all units were stood down at 23:54. Both lifeboats returned safely to station and were subsequently recovered within Burry Port Harbour, where they were made ready again for service.
All crew members involved in the incident returned safely.
Burry Port RNLI would like to extend sincere thanks to all those involved in the response. This incident highlights the professionalism, dedication, and resilience of volunteer lifeboat crews and emergency service partners, particularly when operating in such difficult and testing conditions.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs Alyson Griffiths, who passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Monday 25th May.

Alyson first joined the Burry Port RNLI Ladies Guild in 1974, when it was formed a year after the station was recommissioned in 1973. Over more than five decades of dedicated service, she became an invaluable volunteer fundraiser, serving in a number of roles including Fundraising Committee Member, Fundraising Treasurer, and, more recently, Station Treasurer.

Throughout her 52 years of commitment to the RNLI, Alyson worked tirelessly to promote the Institution within the local community, helping to organise numerous successful and well-publicised fundraising events. During this time, she played a significant role in raising hundreds of thousands of pounds in support of the RNLI.

It would be fair to say that Alyson was involved in almost every fundraising and promotional event at the station since she first volunteered. Her enthusiasm, dedication, and unwavering support of the RNLI has left a lasting legacy that will not be forgotten.

In recognition of her outstanding service to Burry Port RNLI, Alyson and her husband, Trevor, were honoured to attend the Buckingham Palace Garden Party during the Coronation celebrations, as well as events marking the RNLI's 200th anniversary.

There are no words that can truly express the sadness we feel at the loss of such a strong, proud, and dedicated volunteer, and a much-loved member of our station family.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Trevor, Ryan, Gary, and all of Alyson's family and friends at this very difficult time.

Alyson's funeral will take place at Pembrey Church on Friday 19th June at 12:00 noon.

May she rest in peace🤍

💙A Huge Thank You to Foothold Cymru and the Cwtch Cynnes Team.

On Thursday 28th of May we were delighted to welcome Energy Advisors Alison, Annette and Helen from the Cwtch Cynnes project at Foothold Cymru, a Llanelli‑based charity doing incredible work across Carmarthenshire.

As the Cwtch Cynnes project comes to an end today, the team kindly donated 500 emergency foil blankets to support our lifesaving work. We’re truly grateful for this generosity, and we’re so pleased to hear the project has made such a positive impact in the community.

Foothold Cymru continues to grow, with many ongoing projects supporting people throughout Carmarthenshire — a brilliant example of local organisations making a real difference.

Wishing Alison, Annette, Helen and the whole Foothold Cymru team all the very best — and thank you for the support you have shown to our volunteer crew. 💛🌊

Yesterday at 17:00, Burry Port RNLI received a call for service to reports of three person cut off in the vicinity of the entrance of Burry Port Harbour.

With the incoming tide, our D class ‘Williams and Cole’ launched and made way to the Harbour Entrance where they located three persons unable to return to shore due to the incoming tide.

All casualties were assisted and safely transferred to the awaiting shore crew within Burry Port Harbour. The lifeboat returned to Burry Port Lifeboat Station and was made ready for service.

📞 If you see someone in trouble at the coast or at sea, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🚨Another busy day for our volunteers at Burry Port Lifeboat Station🚨

📟📟 Three Call-Outs for Burry Port RNLI 📟📟

At 15:16, Burry Port volunteers were tasked to reports of four people being swept out to sea at Pembrey Old Harbour.

The D-Class Williams and Cole launched at 15:20 and made best speed to the area. On arrival, crews were informed that a paddle boarder had assisted all four casualties safely ashore. All casualties were assessed by our crew alongside Burry Port Coastguard Team.

📟📟
Later that evening, at 17:14, the D-Class Williams and Cole launched again to assist one person cut off by the tide at North Dock, Llanelli.

The casualty was safely recovered by the lifeboat and brought ashore, where they were assessed by Burry Port Coastguard Team.

🌊 Huge thanks to our dedicated volunteer crew for their swift and professional response throughout the day.

As crews were preparing to head home, Milford Haven UK Coastguard requested a further launch to search for two children reported missing in the vicinity of Rhossili Bay.

As the crew prepared to launch, confirmation was received that both children had been found safely ashore, and the crew were stood down.

🛟 Please always check the weather, tides, and especially wind direction before heading out on the water. Offshore winds can quickly carry paddle boarders and other water users out to sea.

Yesterday evening at 17:01, a request from Milford Haven UK Coastguard to search for four persons on two paddle boards who were being swept out to sea, in the Blue Pool area of the North Gower. Burry Port Atlantic 85 launched at 17:15 and safely recovered four casualties and their paddle boards from the water at Burry Holmes, a mile from where they set off from at Broughton. Luckily a kayaker kept all casualties safe until the Atlantic 85 arrived on scene. Working alongside Rhossili Coastguard Team the casualties were transferred ashore and handed over for further medical checks.

🚨 Major Multi-Agency Search for Overdue Kayaker 🚨

Burry Port RNLI crews were called into action in the early hours of Sunday morning after Milford Haven Coastguard requested the immediate launch of both lifeboats to assist in the search for an overdue kayaker reported missing off Llansteffan.

The alarm was raised at 01:27, with crews launching into extremely challenging conditions. In complete darkness and dense sea fog giving virtually zero visibility, both lifeboats made best speed towards Cefn Sidan Beach and the Llansteffan coastline to begin a coordinated search operation.

Battling difficult conditions throughout the night, Burry Port crews searched the western end of Cefn Sidan through to Llansteffan and St Ishmael’s, while Ferryside Lifeboats searched upriver towards Carmarthen. Coastguard Rescue Teams simultaneously carried out shoreline searches as concern grew for the missing kayaker.

Despite the extensive efforts of all crews, by 04:30 nothing had been located. With visibility still dangerously poor, Milford Haven Coastguard made the decision to temporarily stand down all search and rescue assets while the operation was reassessed.

Both Burry Port lifeboats returned safely to station at 05:30. After refuelling and preparing the boats once again, crews remained at immediate readiness.

As daylight broke and visibility slowly improved, the operation resumed at 08:27 on an even larger scale. Both Burry Port lifeboats were re-tasked alongside Ferryside Lifeboats, Rescue Helicopter 139 from St Athan, Tenby All-Weather Lifeboat, Tenby Inshore Lifeboat, and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Llansteffan and Burry Port.

In a hugely positive outcome, at 09:40 the missing kayaker was located safe and well in Pembrey Country Park. With no further assistance required, all units were stood down and returned to station.

Following recovery, refuelling, and wash-down procedures, both Burry Port lifeboats were back on service by 11:00, ready to respond again if needed.

✨Congratulations to Crew Member Mathew who attend his first call on the D Class ‘Williams and Cole’✨

👏 This was a major multi-agency operation involving HM Coastguard, RNLI Burry Port, RNLI Tenby, Ferryside Lifeboats, Coastguard Rescue Teams, and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter, demonstrating the professionalism, teamwork, and dedication of everyone involved in bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.

🛟 If heading out on the water, always carry a means of calling for help, check weather and tide conditions carefully, and let someone know your plans before setting off.
