1st Read & Simonstone Scout Group The British Boy Scouts and British Girl Scouts Association is a Traditional Scouting association in t

1st Read and Simonstone scout group is a Scout group with traditional values and is a member of the British Boy Scout / British Girl Scout Association. We accept both Boys and Girls with our youngest members being able to join when they are 6. The group is very community focused and aims to train children in our care to become healthy, self sufficient and positive members of our community. we run a proficiency scheme in every section where members can work towards badges. We take great pride in our uniform and take part in many outdoor activities and camps all over the UK and even abroad.

🤔 So… what do you think 1st Read & Simonstone Scouts got up to tonight? 👀🏕️

Well, we’ve had windmills spinning, Halloween cakes getting spooky and Scouts tying themselves in knots (hopefully the right ones! 😂). Another busy Thursday across all three sections!

🦫 Beavers worked towards their Handicraft Badge, creating some fabulous windmills! 🌬️🎨 There was plenty of creativity on display, with some brilliant creations to take home.

🐺 Wolfcubs got into the Halloween spirit by decorating some spooktacular cakes! 🎃🧁 They looked fantastic — although we suspect a few may not have survived for very long once the decorating was finished! 😋

⚜️ Scouts put their knot-tying skills to the test! 🪢 They practised their knots before competing in a patrol race using our fabulous knot board. Speed, teamwork and knot-tying skills were all put to the test!

From creative crafts to Halloween treats and traditional Scout skills, there was something for everyone tonight. 👏

Another busy night across all three sections tonight!

👻 Beavers got into the Halloween spirit with some delicious marshmallow ghosts on chocolate digestives! 👻🍫

🐺 Wolfcubs spent the evening learning more about Wolfcub traditions and ceremonies, including why we have them at the beginning and end of each meeting. A great chance to understand a little more about the traditions that make being a Wolfcub special. 🌙🐺

⚜️ ⚜️ Scouts learnt a very useful new skill tonight — sewing! 🪡🧵

A huge thank you to Mrs Midships, our resident sewing expert, who very kindly gave up her time to teach the Scouts how to sew on their Bushcraft badges and, more importantly, gave them a skill they can use for years to come.

It was fantastic to see some traditional skills and knowledge being passed on to the next generation — although we’re hoping the Scouts remember what they’ve learnt when the next badge arrives! 😂

Another evening of learning new skills, traditions and, of course, eating marshmallow ghosts! 👻

🏕️ Thursday Night at 1st Read & Simonstone Scouts! 🏕️

🦫 Beavers got creative and made some wonderful animals out of fruit! 🍌🍎🐊 They certainly proved that you can turn just about anything into a work of art — and the best bit was getting to take their creations home! 😋

🐺 Wolfcubs continued working towards their First Star Badge, getting stuck into lots of physical activities. 🏃‍♂️💪 Plenty of energy was used and hopefully everyone went home tired! 😆

⚜️ Scouts were working towards their Ki-Ro Badge and tonight took a trip to St John’s Church in Read.

A huge thank you to Rev Claire - Bobbie, who very kindly spent time with the Scouts teaching them about the different aspects of the church and helping them learn more as part of their badge work. 🙏

A brilliant evening of creativity, activity and learning across the group. 💜💛

Another brilliant Thursday night at 1st Read & Simonstone! 👏

🦫 Beavers got creative as they worked towards their Handicraft Beaver Badge, making some colourful autumn leaves using tissue paper. 🍂🎨

🐺 Wolfcubs continued their Star work, learning more about the points of the compass and putting their knowledge to the test. 🧭

⚜️ Wolfcubs & Scouts then joined together for a joint meeting, with both sections having a great time playing games together — although things got a little more competitive when they faced each other in dodgeball! 😆🏐

It was fantastic to see the two sections mixing together, having fun and working as one big Scout family. 💜💛

🏕️ Thursday Night at 1st Read & Simonstone Scouts! 🏕️

Another busy evening across all three sections tonight!

🦫 Beavers carried out a Colony Good Turn, heading out to do some litter picking and helping to keep our local community looking its best. 🌳👏

They then continued learning about the animal that gives them their name, discovering more about where beavers live and how they make their homes. 🦫🏡

🐺 Wolfcubs continued working towards their First Star, learning about the points of the compass. 🧭 They put their new knowledge to the test with a few games — with plenty of running around involved!

⚜️ Scouts had a cooking night… and tonight’s speciality was ‘Mars Bar en Croûte’! 🤣🍫🥐

Mars Bars wrapped in puff pastry and cooked until deliciously gooey. Not sure it’s quite French cuisine, but it certainly went down well! 😋

Another brilliant night of community, learning, teamwork and, of course, food!

Please note that next week the Scout section will be meeting at the normal time at Read school.

Another busy night across the three sections tonight.

🦫 Beavers got to learn all about the animal that gives them their name! They discovered where beavers live, what they eat and even how long they can hold their breath.(up to 15 mins!) 🦫🌊

There were some great questions from the Beavers too — clearly some budding wildlife experts among them! 👏

🐺 Wolfcubs started working towards their Sportsman Badge, working together in teams and putting their throwing and catching skills to the test. ⚽🏀🏐 Plenty of teamwork and a little bit of competition thrown in!

⚜️ Scouts were putting their observation and stealth skills to the test. They followed a leader around the village without being seen or heard, carefully observing what they were doing and making notes along the way. 👀🤫

A brilliant evening of learning new skills, teamwork and a bit of sneaking around! 😆

We’re back! 🙌 After the summer break, it was great to see everyone back on a Thursday night — and a special welcome to some new members joining us! 👋

🦫 Beavers & Wolfcubs kicked things off with a fun welcome-back games night, with plenty of running around, laughs and competitive spirit!

⚜️ The Scouts took on an Alphabet Scavenger Hunt, searching the village hall for items beginning with every letter of the alphabet. One team even managed to find them all… although there may have been some very generous judging involved! 😂

A brilliant first night back — great to have everyone together again. We’re looking forward to another term of adventures!
