A little reminder from the counselling room…

Not every reaction is about you.

Sometimes people respond from their own hurt, fears, insecurities or unresolved experiences.

When we understand that, we stop carrying emotional baggage that was never ours to begin with.

You don’t need to absorb every opinion, justify every decision or take responsibility for someone else’s projections.

Stay grounded, know your worth & protect your peace.

Because the moment you stop taking everything personally is often the moment you start feeling free. 💚

⚠️We need your help to protect our community ⚠️

Proposed match day road closures (Ref: LSG4/104438/ARF) are going to hit our local area hard.

It’s not just our free counselling charity that will suffer—it’s our entire community, the local busineses & churches, our elderly neighbours, and the most vulnerable members of our community who rely on clear access.

We cannot let these restrictive changes isolate the people who need support the most. Please take two minutes to email your objection to the council using the template below. Let's stand up for our community! 👇

We’ve put together a quick email template below so you can voice your objection to Lancashire County Council.

Subject: Strong Objection to Proposed Road Closures on Match Days - Ref: LSG4/104438/ARF

To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to formally object to the proposed match day road closures (Reference: LSG4/104438/ARF).

These restrictions will have a severely damaging impact on our local community.
Specifically, closing these roads will disrupt our charity, which provides essential free counselling services, making it incredibly difficult for people to access vital mental health support.

Furthermore, this proposal creates major barriers for local businesses & churches and deeply impacts our entire community including the elderly and vulnerable residents who rely on open access for transport, care, and community support.

I urge you to reconsider this proposal and protect the accessibility of our neighborhood's most vital services and residents.

Kind regards,
[Your Name/Group Name]

Thank you 💚

Be kind to yourself

Growth isn’t always loud, obvious or instant.

Sometimes it’s quiet.
Sometimes it’s messy.

Sometimes it looks like taking one small step when part of you wants to give up.

You are not behind, you are simply becoming.

A work in progress takes time…but a work of art takes a wee bit longer. 🦋💚

One of the greatest freedoms in life is realising that not everyone needs to understand you, approve of you, or agree with you.

The truth is, many of us spend years shrinking ourselves to fit into spaces we were never meant for, worrying about what people think while forgetting to ask ourselves a much more important question:

What do I think about me?

Confidence isn’t believing everyone will like you.

Confidence is knowing you’ll be okay when they don’t.

The people who matter will celebrate your growth.
The people who don’t often have an opinion on everything anyway.

So today, stop handing out VIP access to people who haven’t earned a seat at your table.

Protect your energy.
Trust your values.
Take up space.

And remember…

You weren’t born to be liked by everyone.
You were born to be fully, unapologetically YOU. 💚

Things You Can Control… and Why That Matters

One of the biggest shifts in emotional wellbeing happens when we stop fighting reality and start focusing our energy where it can actually make a difference.

You can’t always control what happens to you.
You can’t control other people’s choices, opinions, moods or behaviour.

But you can control:
Your effort
Your attitude
What you focus on
What you talk about
Who you spend time with
Your priorities
How kind you are
What you choose to believe about yourself

When children (and adults!) learn the difference between what they can and cannot control, anxiety often starts to lose its grip.

Instead of worrying about everything, they learn to ask:

“What part of this situation is mine to influence?”

A simple conversation today could help your child build resilience, confidence and emotional wellbeing for years to come. 💚

We live in a world that celebrates busy.

Busy is worn like a badge of honour, is mistaken for success and is applauded.

Yet every week in our counselling rooms we meet people whose minds and bodies are quietly whispering…

“Slow down.”

Anxiety. Exhaustion. Overwhelm. Burnout.

They’re often not signs that you’re failing.

They’re signs that you’ve been running for too long without rest.

You don’t need to earn a pause & you don’t need permission to breathe.

You don’t need to wait until you’re broken to take care of yourself.

The nervous system loves safety which is often found in the simple things:

A walk.
A conversation.
A laugh.
A moment of stillness.

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do today… is slow down.

So if you’re looking for a sign to do that read this again 💚

One of the most powerful moments in counselling is when people realise they were never actually fighting each other…

They were fighting for their own perspective to be understood.

Most conflict isn’t created because one person is right and the other is wrong.

It’s created because both people are standing in different places, looking at the same situation through different experiences, beliefs, fears and histories.

When we stop listening to reply and start listening to understand, something shifts.

Defensiveness softens, curiosity appears and connection returns.

This is exactly what we do in the counselling room every day.

Not deciding who is right.

Helping people understand each other. 💚

One of the biggest myths in parenting is believing we have to make our children’s difficult feelings disappear.

We don’t.

Children don’t need us to rescue them from every emotion. They need us to sit beside them while they experience it.

When a child is angry, upset, anxious or overwhelmed, our calm becomes their compass.

Not because we are fixing the feeling, but because we are showing them that feelings are safe, temporary and manageable.

Emotional regulation isn’t teaching children not to feel.

It’s teaching them that they can feel anything and still be okay.

The truth is, children borrow our nervous systems long before they can manage their own.

So sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is stay present, stay connected and remind them:

💚 “You don’t have to go through this alone.”

Because feelings don’t need fixing.

They need understanding. 💚

Thank you so much to the incredible team at Happy Creative. 💚

As a small local charity, a new website wasn’t simply about having a fresh look , it was about making it easier for people who are struggling to find support when they need it most.

Those 44 enquiries represent 44 people who took a brave step towards reaching out, and your generosity has helped make that possible 🙏

We are incredibly grateful for your time, expertise and belief in what we do at Freeflow. The impact of this partnership extends far beyond our charity and reaches into the wider community, helping more people access support, improve their wellbeing and feel less alone.

Thank you for helping us make a difference. 💚🙏

Giving back has always been part of who we are.

So being able to give back our time and gift a new website to Freeflow - Free Counselling/Mental Health Service in Burnley has been really rewarding.

Especially when CEO Edel McGinn told us that the new website had received 44 new enquiries in just 8 days... Wow!

Behind every enquiry is a real person reaching out for help, and knowing we've played a small part in making that easier is really humbling.
