Last Thursday night we were delighted to welcome Simon Hope to the club as our guest demonstrator. Simon is a renowned demonstrator and this was his first visit to Burcot Woodturners.

We had an excellent turnout with over 60 members, friends, and visitors in the hall, and they were treated to Simon turning a beaded box with pewter insert and finial. He showed us plenty of skills and techniques, from making his own pewter insert to applying the beading to the outside of his box.

It was a great evening, and we all were amazed at how easy he made things look. We look forward to Simon returning to Burcot to give us another demonstration in the future.

So that's the end of another great weekend of woodturning at the Coomberswood Canal Trust Open Weekend.

A big thank you to the Coombeswood Canal Trust for inviting us back to their event, and also to everyone who came along to watch us turning and to speak with us. It was great to see you all.

Watch out for our next adventure on the road, but don't forget that you can always come along to a club night at Burcot Village Hall.😁

End of Day 1 of the Coombeswood Canal Trust Open Weekend!

Despite some mixed weather, we have had a lot of people come along to the stand to watch the live turning demonstrations and talk to us about woodturning. It is always great to speak to people who want to know more about the craft and our club.

We are back there again tomorrow with more turning and plenty of items for sale.

At our May monthly meeting we recognised the contribution of longstanding club member Bryan Newman.

Bryan has been a member of Burcot Woodturners for 25 years, and during that time he has served on the club committee. Bryan has always helped and supported other member to improve their skills. He has been a regular at our outdoor events, promoting the club, demonstrating woodturning to the public and sharing his experience with other club members.

As it is Bryan's 90th birthday later this month we were pleased to make him an honorary member as a thank you for everything he has done, and continues to do, for the club,

Club Chairman, Richard Pinches, presented Bryan with his certificate at the meeting.

It was our May monthly meeting last Thursday and we had a lot going on in the village hall for our Hands On and Turning Clinic.
The evening offered a variety of activities for turners of all levels. Novice turners could try their hand at turning a garden dibber, whilst more experienced turners had the opportunity to try their hand a turning apples and pears.
In addition we welcomed AWGB Midland Rep Barrie Fisher to show members how to use paint and materials to decorate their work. We also gave members the chance to have a go at using pyrography equipment in order to enhance the items that they turn.
It was another busy night and it was good to see everyone get involved and have a go.

We had a wonderful couple of days at Woodworks at Daventry with Burcot Woodturners entering the all of the competitions.
Despite this being our first time at the event, and the stiff competition, I am pleased to announce that Trevor earned a 3rd place for his captive ring turned goblet.
Our success did not stop there, the three pieces we entered for the best piece competition earned us another 3rd place!!!
Congratulations to Trevor, Mike and Ray for their excellent pieces, and also to Bruce, Jeff, and everyone's work that was part of the stand over the 2 days.
We were extremely proud. πŸ˜πŸŽ‰πŸΎπŸΎ

It was our first time attending the Woodworks at Daventry show as a club and we had a fantastic couple of days.
It was great to meet up with the other clubs, and to be inspired by some of the work on display. There was plenty to do as well with demonstrations, trade stands and the various competitions throughout the 2 days.
Congratulations to Tudor Rose Wood Turners for organising such an excellent event, and a massive thank you for inviting Burcot Woodturners to be a part of it.
Looking forward to next year already.
