Bulkington WI Bulkington WI meet on the first Thursday of every month at Bulkington Working Men' S Club at 7.30pm.

This month Bulkington WI were treated to a feast of jewellery from Ruth Chipperfield. Ruth showed pictures of historical pieces, including Faberge eggs. She also showed remodelled pieces which she had created from old ones which were precious to their owners. Members were then invited to show her their own jewellery for her advice. On the whole a meeting full of bling!

Bulkington WI heard al about Medical Assistance Dogs this month. In spite of difficulties with his equipment, Harold Turner told us how dogs can sniff out diseases and help with diagnosing patients.
President Jo thanked all who had made the Summer Party such a success and showed the wall hanging for those who had not seen it before. Liz and Pat were presented with flowers for their invaluable help with the tombola.
The Harvest Supper has been put back to November for unavoidable reasons and the October meeting will now feature Ruth Chipperfield with her jewellery.

At Bulkington WI's Summer Party, NFWI Chair, Jeryl Stone unveiled our new wall hanging. This has been worked on by several members, some of whom had not done any work of this kind before and depicts activities in our WI. After the unveiling the Bulkington Belles Choir told in song all about those activities. Members and guests from the Anchor Group enjoyed afternoon tea and a lovely afternoon was had by all.

This month Bulkington WI welcomed Lorraine and Paul Hoskins, local representatives of the RNLI who told us that 2024 marked 200 years of the RNLI. From its inception by Sir William Hillary in 1824, it has grown into a national and international charity whose aim is to save lives in the water and at sea. They calculate that 140,000 lives have been saved in 200 years from voluntary staff and crew manning 238 lifeboat stations around the country. What is not generally realised is that the RNLI also provides services at inland waterways, lakes, rivers and reservoirs.
Also a sale of pre-loved clothing was held to rise funds for the WFWI Chair's Challenge in aid of the homeless.
As there is no meeting in August, our next event will be our Summer Party on Thursday 20th August. As well as the usual cream teas, sales and entertainment there will be a special surprise, so don't forget to get a ticket

Belladonna Flowers from Bedworth crafted this superb floral arrangement at Bulkington WI's June meeting. Using several varieties of cut flowers and fern they explained in detail the process and they generously donated the arrangement for a raffle prize which was won by Anita Morris.
Vice President Rosie chaired the meeting and introduced new Secretary Rachel. Rachel thanked previous Secretary Christine for her hard work. Christine has grown sunflower plants and these were sold with the proceeds going to the WFWI Chair's Challenge.
Members were reminded to get tickets for the Summer Party on 20th August.

Bulkington WI held their Annual Business Meeting this week and members also voted on the Resolutions for the NFWI Annual meeting. Secretary Christine gave the Committee report on our activities throughout the year, Rosie the Treasurer gave the Financial report and President Jo summed up our year and thanked the Committee and all those who helped in various ways. Retiring Vice-President Margaret thanked Jo for her hard work and presented her with a flowering plant. Margaret herself was presented with a plant to thank her for her service. Coincidentally, both Jo and Margaret are celebrating "big" birthdays this month and were serenaded with a rousing rendition of "Happy Birthday to You." Later, a beautiful cake was shared out to all the members present.
Several of the Committee are changing posts this year including Rosie becoming Vice-President and Rachel taking over from Christine as Secretary. President Jo was elected unanimously to serve another term.
Various bye-laws were voted on and passed and the business part of the meeting concluded.
After refreshments (and birthday cake) Gwyneth took the members through the resolutions, firstly on providing accessible public toilets and secondly on action on women's homelessness. Both were passed unanimously and the votes will be taken by our delegate to the on-line NFWI Annual Meeting.
After this very busy meeting, President Jo thanked everyone for their attendance and wished everyone safe journey home.
