๐๐ Happy World Ocean Day! ๐๐
Today, weโre celebrating our connection to the sea by making it even easier for our local community to help protect it.
Weโre delighted to have donated a second litter pick station, creating a coastal litter-picking route between Harwich Town Sailing Club and the Harwich Low Lighthouse. ๐ฎ
Now, anyone can collect a litter picker and bag from either location, enjoy a walk along the waterfront, and help remove litter along the way before returning the equipment at the other station.
Every piece of litter removed makes a difference. Plastic pollution remains one of the biggest threats to our marine environment:
๐น Around 80% of marine litter originates from land-based sources, finding its way into rivers, estuaries and eventually the sea.
๐น Plastic makes up the vast majority of marine litter found on UK and North Atlantic beaches.
๐น Once in the ocean, plastic breaks down into tiny microplastics that can be ingested by marine wildlife and persist in the environment for many years.
By working together, we can help keep our coastline clean, protect wildlife, and ensure future generations can continue to enjoy our beautiful waterfront.
As our IT Support Engineer Sean demonstrates below, if youโre passing by, why not grab a litter picker and help make a difference? ๐โป๏ธ
