Yesterday’s Bude Lifeboat Run 2026 was a fantastic success, with a brilliant turnout and an incredible atmosphere from start to finish.

A huge thank you to all the runners, from juniors to adults, as well as our generous sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and the many supporters who came along to cheer everyone on. Your support makes a real difference and helps us continue our lifesaving work here in Bude.

Here are few photos of our adult runners, can you spot yourself or someone you know?

Thank you again to everyone who made the day so special — we couldn’t do it without you.

And the future of Bude is looking bright! ✨

Before the adults set off, our junior runners took on their 1 mile race and they were absolutely brilliant. Grit, determination, and way more energy than the 6-milers had left at the finish 😂

Seeing so many young faces turning up to run for the RNLI means the world to us. You’re not just running 1 mile today — you’re growing up knowing what the lifeboat crew does and why it matters.

Thank you to every junior runner, parent, and volunteer who made it a proper celebration. You raised vital funds and gave us all a massive boost.

Keep the photos coming — we’d love to see them! Tag us

Wishing everyone good luck for tomorrow 🏃 🏃 🏃

FLOAT TO LIVE
Did you know... MALES OVER THE AGE OF 15 ARE MOST AT RISK

Please tag a friend and share to help save lives this summer.

5 STEPS TO KNOW HOW TO FLOAT
1. Tilt your head back submerging your ears.
2. Relax and control your breathing.
3. Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat.
4. Your legs may sink - that's OK. Everyone floats differently.
5. Practice floating at a supervised location like a swimming pool.

If you see someone else struggling in water:
Phone 999 to get help
Tell them to stay calm and float on their back
Throw rescue equipment to help them float until emergency services arrive.

🚤🐾 A Special Visitor at Tuesday Night Training! 🐾🚤

While our volunteer crew were busy at Bude Lifeboat Station this evening carrying out their weekly training exercise, we were joined by a very important guest… Murphy!

Murphy, a 5-year-old German Shepherd × Poodle, arrived alongside crew member Rhys and quickly made himself at home among the team. Born just up the road in Chilsworthy, Murphy is very much a local lad and, at a healthy 35kg, he’s certainly built for lifeboat station visits!

Known for being a real family dog, Murphy is loyal, affectionate and fiercely protective of those he loves – qualities our volunteer crew can certainly appreciate. Although he wasn’t quite ready to sign up for a pager, he did a fantastic job supervising training, meeting the crew and ensuring standards remained suitably high throughout the evening.

Thank you to Rhys for bringing along our VIP visitor and adding an extra smile to training night.

With the recent heatwave bringing huge numbers of visitors and locals down to enjoy our beautiful coastline here in Bude, we’d like to issue a friendly reminder from everyone at Bude RNLI.

Our station car park and access routes are currently extremely busy throughout the day. These access points are the only route our volunteer crew have to reach the lifeboat during an emergency launch.

If access becomes blocked or traffic cannot move, it can delay our crews getting to people who may be in danger at sea.

We kindly ask everyone visiting the area to please park responsibly, avoid blocking entrances or access lanes, and help keep traffic flowing around the lifeboat station at all times.

The support we receive from both the local community and visitors is hugely appreciated and plays a massive part in helping us continue saving lives at sea.

Thank you for always supporting your local RNLI crew and helping us stay ready to respond when the pager goes off.

Most importantly, enjoy your time here in beautiful Bude, stay safe around the water, and where possible choose lifeguarded beaches.

Please may we ask you to share this post ❤️💙

🚨 BEEP🚨 BEEP 🚨BEEP🚨

It’s been another busy few days for the volunteer crew at Bude RNLI Lifeboat with multiple incidents involving people getting into difficulty in the surf.

🌊 Shout 1 – 18:50 – 25/05
Bude lifeboat was tasked to a bodyboarder reported to be in difficulty in the surf at Northcott Mouth. Shortly after launching, the crew were stood down, however the lifeboat continued towards the area carrying out a preventative patrol towards Sandymouth before returning to station. Local surfers assisted the casualty safely back to shore before the crew arrived.

🌊 Shout 2 – 09:00 – 26/05
The crew were paged to reports of two bodyboarders in difficulty at Crooklets Beach. Whilst making their way to the station, the crew were stood down after members of the public and local water users helped the casualties safely ashore.

🌊 Later on 26/05
Whilst undertaking routine training, crew were alerted to a casualty who had sustained a head laceration after being struck by a surfboard. Casualty care was provided by RNLI volunteers before the individual was transferred to local A&E for further assessment.

These incidents highlight just how quickly conditions can change in the water and how important it is to look out for one another along our coastline.

A huge thank you to the local surfers and members of the public who assisted those in difficulty and raised the alarm quickly. Early intervention and quick thinking can make all the difference.

If you see anyone in trouble at the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.

Where possible, always choose a lifeguarded beach and take advice from local lifeguards before entering the water.

Stay safe and respect the water.

Great to see three of our crew down at RNLI College in Poole this week putting in the hard yards on their Emergency Procedures course 💪🌊

Kitted up in their dry suits (and looking the part), they’ve been getting stuck into capsize drills, sea survival techniques, and how to respond when things don’t go to plan out on the water. It’s all about building the confidence, resilience, and muscle memory needed to operate safely in challenging conditions.

This is a key step on their development, and on completion they’ll be working towards progressing to Tier 2 👏

We’re incredibly proud of the commitment they’re showing — giving up their time to train and prepare for the realities of lifesaving at sea. Training like this ensures our crew are ready to respond, whatever the conditions.
