A huge thank you to everyone who supported the Bucknall Scarecrow Festival and Trail last weekend.

It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the event, with more than 140 visitors taking part over the weekend. From the fantastic scarecrows and trail to the refreshments, cakes, books, plants and tombola, the whole event was a real community effort.

We're especially grateful to everyone who kindly donated cakes, helped behind the scenes, and gave their time to make the weekend such a success. A special thank you also goes to Nigel and Teri for providing such fantastic live music on Sunday, which was greatly enjoyed by all who attended.

The standard of this year's scarecrow entries was outstanding, with plenty of creativity, humour and hard work on display throughout the village. Congratulations to our prize winners: We are thankful to CLLR William Gray for judging the Scarecrows on Saturday Morning.

šŸ„‡ 1st Place: Nightingale House – The Wizard of Oz
🄈 2nd Place: Bucknall Village Hall committee – Mary Poppins and Bert
šŸ„‰ 3rd Place: Guy and Karen – Only Fools and Horses

Most importantly, it was heartwarming to see the village come together once again. Events like this remind us what a wonderful, supportive and thriving community Bucknall is. Every scarecrow, every cake, every helping hand and every visitor played a part in making the weekend so special.

Thank you all for your support. We look forward to doing it all again next year!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Bucknall Scarecrow Festival & Trail today. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the scarecrows, exploring the village, and supporting St Margaret’s Church.

If you didn’t make it today, don’t worry – we’re back tomorrow (Sunday) from 10am to 3pm with another chance to complete the trail and see all the fantastic entries.

Good news too - despite earlier reports that the main road might be closed for resurfacing, the works have been delayed and the road is currently open, making it easy to get to the festival.

We’re also delighted that the brilliant Nigel and Teri will be performing live music in the churchyard from 11am.

Inside and around the church you’ll find refreshments, homemade cakes, our popular book and jigsaw sale, and a fantastic plant sale, so there’s plenty to enjoy even if you’re not taking part in the trail.

We’ll also be announcing the winners of our Best Scarecrow Competition at 3pm, so good luck to all our talented entrants!

Thank you again to everyone who has helped make the festival possible, and to all those who have supported it. Every penny raised helps us care for and maintain St Margaret’s Church for future generations.

We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!

We understand the Main Street through Bucknall will be closed tomorrow for surface dressing works.

We’ll speak with the team in the morning and hopefully they’ll be doing it in sections again so there’ll still be some access to the village via Platts Lane. The team were really decent last time and worked around an event then.

We’re mindful that it’s the Scarecrow Festival and Trail over the weekend.
We weren’t sadly informed of this closure, and we believe the resurfacing has been postponed a couple of days due to the bad weather so it’s a bit of bad timing.

We hope it won’t impact the scarecrow event much so please do come and support us! Some of the scarecrows are out already and looking amazing!! There’s going to be over 20 individual scarecrows around the village!

Calling all scarecrow makers! Please read

The deadline for entries for the Bucknall Scarecrow Festival & Trail is 31st May, and we really need to hear from anyone hoping to take part.

You don’t need to pay now, we simply need names and planned entries so we can work out the trail, plan the weekend, and confirm whether we have enough interest for the event to go ahead as hoped.

This year’s theme is TV & Film, and the festival is planned for Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June.

Entry is Ā£5 per scarecrow, with proceeds supporting St Margaret’s Church, Bucknall.

A quick message to say you’re planning an entry would be a huge help, or you can email [email protected], call 388436 or submit the form on the earlier post, whatever’s easiest.

Let’s see if we can make Bucknall’s second Scarecrow Festival another brilliant village weekend.
