Buckingham Wombles

18/10/2026

Buckingham Wombles had a fantastic turnout of volunteers for today's group litter pick! Meeting at Burleigh Piece, Linden Village the number of us meant that we could cover a large area between us, heading off in different directions to get litter picking. 👏
21 bags of litter were collected altogether - 16 bags of general litter and three bags of recycling. This has been left ready for collection by Street Scene. 🗑️
The other two bags were of drinks cans that have now gone to Cycle Saviours to help with their fundraising. 🚲
A big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers for their time, enthusiasm and hard work! 💜

Weather permitting we will be meeting on Saturday 3rd October for our monthly conservation session. We will be clearing overgrown vegetation on the Walk at the London Road end and might try to remove some of the rubbish from the swampy area near the University Car Park too, from the bank.

Meet at the University Car Park, Chandos Road at 10:30am. Please wear long trousers and sturdy shoes. We have gloves, secateurs and loppers but you may prefer to bring your own.

Buckingham Wombles have had a great morning at today’s Group Litter Pick. 💜
Eight of our amazing volunteers met us at the A421 end of Buckingham’s Railway Walk to get litter picking in all directions from there including Chandos Road, the Railway Walk, along the A421 and from there to Buckingham Industrial Estate. 👏
Between them, as well as the larger items such as pieces of a child’s toy, they collected two bags of recycling, seven bags of mixed litter and two large bags of drinks cans that have already gone to to Cycle Saviours to help with their fundraising. We thank them also for their helping to put all of this into the right bags ready for collection by Buckinghamshire Council’s Street Scene team. 🗑️
Thank you to everyone that spoke to each of us, both in thanking us for getting litter picking and about how they litter pick in their area. Every little bit helps! 🙏
Many thanks also to the people that kindly helped to carry all of our litter pickers, hoops etc when they were walked back afterwards. ☺️

It was lovely to see so many of our amazing Wombles (including some new Wombles) out today joining in with our group litter pick at Lace Hill. 🤗

They got litter picking all around the estate and along London Road, collecting 15 bags of general litter, two bags of recycling, as well as a wonderful mix of larger items including a traffic cone, a trike🚲 and part of a shopping trolley, 🛒
A large bag of drinks cans from today shall be going to Cycle Saviours to help with their fundraising.🥫

Thank you to everyone that litter picked with us today - it makes such a difference in the area than we covered and the amount we can litter pick in that amount of time!💜
A big thank you also goes to Adrian for his help giving out all of the litter pickers etc at the start and helping to put the litter together for collection afterward today. 🙏

Items from our litter pick shall be collected by Buckinghamshire Council's Street Scene staff.🗑️

Having volunteered at different events that Willen Hospice has been involved in previously, I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer with them by litter picking for the MK Weekender event at Campbell Park.
I was wondering, please, if any of our wonderful Wombles would be interested in getting litter picking at local events in a similar way. I can keep an eye out for and post on here anything similar.
While I can’t guarantee that Scouting for Girls or Martin Kemp shall be there, it’s an excellent way to get involved at different events.
Similarly, if there is anyone from any local events that Buckingham Wombles could help at, please do let us know.
