River Rinse 2026

This year's River Rinse will take place over two events along the River Great Ouse in Buckingham:

📍 Sunday 20 September: Bourton Park Car Park, 10.15am Start: 10.30am Route: Bourton Park to the Silver Bridge in Heartlands Park.

📍 Sunday 4 October: Silver Bridge, Heartlands Park, 10.15am Start: 10.30am Route: From the finish point of the first event through to Cornwall Meadow Car Park.

For over twenty years, members of Stowe Sub-Aqua Club and volunteers have carried out the annual River Rinse, removing litter from the river and helping to improve the local environment.

It was lovely to see so many of our amazing Wombles (including some new Wombles) out today joining in with our group litter pick at Lace Hill. 🤗

They got litter picking all around the estate and along London Road, collecting 15 bags of general litter, two bags of recycling, as well as a wonderful mix of larger items including a traffic cone, a trike🚲 and part of a shopping trolley, 🛒
A large bag of drinks cans from today shall be going to Cycle Saviours to help with their fundraising.🥫

Thank you to everyone that litter picked with us today - it makes such a difference in the area than we covered and the amount we can litter pick in that amount of time!💜
A big thank you also goes to Adrian for his help giving out all of the litter pickers etc at the start and helping to put the litter together for collection afterward today. 🙏

Items from our litter pick shall be collected by Buckinghamshire Council's Street Scene staff.🗑️

Having volunteered at different events that Willen Hospice has been involved in previously, I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer with them by litter picking for the MK Weekender event at Campbell Park.
I was wondering, please, if any of our wonderful Wombles would be interested in getting litter picking at local events in a similar way. I can keep an eye out for and post on here anything similar.
While I can’t guarantee that Scouting for Girls or Martin Kemp shall be there, it’s an excellent way to get involved at different events.
Similarly, if there is anyone from any local events that Buckingham Wombles could help at, please do let us know.

Buckingham Wombles had the opportunity to be involved in the Rotary Club of Buckingham's Litter Pick of the A413 between Buckingham and Winslow back in April this year. Following that, we have been working with them to confirm Buckingham Wombles as a Rotary Community Corp. This is “a group of non-Rotarians who share..commitment to changing the world through service projects”. We got to attend yesterday’s Rotary Club meeting to confirm us a Community Corp and for the presentation of the certificate for this.
Buckingham Wombles look forward to continuing to work with Buckingham Rotary Club. 💜

It's Buckingham Fringe Week!
Run by Buckingham Town Council, this event honours Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday with this year's theme of 'Nature and Wildlife'🌳
There is a wide selection of events taking place all around the town for this, including a Bug Fest, Nature Makers, Wildlife Photography Competition and the Manor Farm Bourton Flower Farm Fun Day.🐞

Buckingham Wombles met at the top of the St Rumbolds Fields estate to get litter picking from there. The number of us there meant that our Wombles could get litter picking in all directions, including around the estate, toward the Railway Walk and in the Gawcott Road and Tingewick Road directions. We even had some more new Wombles today! 🙏

We collected 14 bags of general litter, two bags of recycling, a bag of drinks cans for Cycle Saviours and a wonderful mixture of other things including an old bird table and a paddling pool. At least five bags of this were from along the road in the estate that backs onto the A421 - well done especially to everyone that tackled all of the litter along there!👏

Thank you to everyone that litter picked with us today - it makes such a difference in the area than we can cover and the amount we can litter pick, even in a short amount of time!💜

Drinks Can Recycling for Cycle Saviours 🥫
Cycle Savioursrs is a social enterprise that loves saving, refurbishing, repairing, servicing and selling bikes. They make cycling accessible to all and encourage everyone to get on their bikes whilst helping the environment at the same time. 🚲
In raising funds for this work, they collect drinks cans for recycling. 🥫

Please can you help us to support them both with any drinks cans collected from litter picks and any that you can bring in from home. 🗑️ Buckingham Wombles can either collect them from you, or they can be brought to us to us at one of our group litter picks. We'll get them to Cycle Saviours from there.💜 See less
