Over half the places on our initial free first aid session have been taken 🫶🏻 But what happens after you’ve learned CPR?

Well, imagine a Bruton where there is a CPR-trained volunteer within a few hundred metres of every home? You could become part of a life-saving network right here in our community ⛑️

Once you’ve completed the free CPR and Defibrillator Awareness Session on 29th June, you can register as a volunteer responder on the GoodSAM app (as can anyone who has already had training from a recognised training organisation) 📲

This will mean that when a cardiac arrest is reported to the Ambulance Service, GoodSAM will alert trained local volunteers who are within 400 metres, helping get life-saving support to a patient before paramedics arrive ❤️

Why does this matter?
❤️ In a cardiac arrest, every minute counts🧠 Irreversible damage can begin within 4 to 6 minutes without oxygen📉 Every minute without treatment significantly reduces a person’s chance of survival

GoodSAM helps bridge that gap by connecting trained local people with emergencies happening close to them. That’s one of the reasons we’re launching the Bruton Community First Aid Programme. The more people who are trained, the stronger and safer our community becomes.

Join our first FREE CPR and Defibrillator Awareness Session on 29 June and help make a real difference to our incredible community, then join GoodSAM and become part of making Bruton a more resilient community! 💚

❤️ Could you help save a life? The first event in our new Bruton Community First Aid Programme is here!

Join us for a FREE CPR and Defibrillator Awareness Session delivered by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

Every year, thousands of people experience a cardiac arrest outside of hospital. When it happens, the actions taken in the first few minutes can mean the difference between life and death.

This session will give people in Bruton the skills, confidence and knowledge to act fast in an emergency - and potentially save a life before an ambulance arrives.

📅 Monday 29 June🕖 7pm – 8:30pm 📍 Hummingbird School, Bruton

You'll learn:✔ How to recognise a cardiac arrest✔ How to perform CPR✔ How to use a defibrillator with confidence✔ What to do while waiting for emergency services

The S.W.A.S.T trainer will also provide a demonstration of GoodSAM - a free NHS smartphone app that connects CPR and first aid trained volunteers with nearby medical emergencies reported to the Ambulance Service. By alerting trained people close to the scene, it can help life-saving treatment start in the critical minutes before professional help arrives.

No previous experience needed. No medical background required. Just book yourself in and come along. The more people in our community who have these skills, the more lives we can protect 💚

Book your free place here https://tinyurl.com/3s2ys2ut
Please share with friends, neighbours and groups! 🙏🏻 30 spaces available on a first come, first served basis.

🚑 A new community initiative for Bruton

When an emergency happens, the first person on the scene is rarely a paramedic. It's a neighbour. A friend. A passer-by.

That's why Good Company Bruton is launching the Bruton Community First Aid Programme 💚

Our ambition is simple but powerful: to train hundreds of local people in lifesaving skills over the coming years, helping make Bruton and the surrounding villages safer, stronger and more resilient ✨✨✨

Living in a rural community has many advantages, but it can also mean longer waits for emergency medical help. In those crucial minutes, knowing what to do can make all the difference.

Over the coming months and years we'll be offering free and affordable training opportunities for residents across Bruton and its surrounding parishes.

Together, we can build a network of people ready to step forward when it matters most, because looking after each other is what community is all about.

Keep an eye out for our first FREE first aid training session coming in June.

P.s this new programme came about because of an idea sent to us by a local resident. We’d love to hear any thoughts you have to create a more resilient community 🫶🏻

A few months ago, we shared an ambitious idea with you all: to purchase Quarry Field and protect it as a green space for both nature and the people of Bruton 🌱

The response was extraordinary. So many of you offered your support, shared ideas, attended meetings and demonstrated just how much this special place means to our community. Thanks to that enthusiasm, and the generosity of a number of private funders, Good Company Bruton was able to submit an offer to purchase the field ✨

From the outset, we knew the owner's preferred option was to sell Quarry Field alongside Coombe Hill House if possible. Unfortunately, we have recently learned that an offer has now gone ahead, meaning ours has not been accepted.

While this is disappointing news, it is not the end of the story.

Our next step will be to establish contact with the new owner and explore whether there may be opportunities to work together by Good Company leasing the field. We remain hopeful that arrangements like this could still help secure many of the environmental and community benefits that inspired the original proposal 💚

Most importantly, the groundswell of support for Quarry Field has shown just how deeply Bruton cares about its green spaces, wildlife and future. That energy hasn't disappeared and we’ve been really inspired by it and the energy shown ⚡️

We'll keep you updated as conversations progress.
Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far 🙏🏻

💛 Helping families and carers of kids with SEND feel connected and supported

Earlier this year, Good Company Bruton was pleased to support FLOC - who support families raising children with additional needs, disabilities and sensitivities - with a grant of £360 from the Bruton Community Fund ✨

The funding helped cover the cost of hiring Bruton Community Hall, as well as a special day out at Mill on the Brue for local families, giving children and parents the chance to spend time together outdoors, meet the animals and enjoy a fun day away from the routines and demands of everyday life 🫶🏻

FLOC’s mission is to end isolation for parents and carers of children with SEND - they help families strengthen their wellbeing, feel empowered, and support their child’s development with confidence 🕊️

For many families, finding others who understand their experiences can make a huge difference. Organisations like FLOC, which was set up during last year’s Bruton Boost - play a vital role in creating those opportunities, helping families build relationships, share experiences and feel less alone 💚

Community is about making sure everyone feels welcome, included and able to take part.
We're proud that the Bruton Community Fund was able to contribute to activities that brought local families together and created some happy memories along the way.

A huge thank you to everyone who supports the Bruton Community Fund. Through your donations, we're able to provide small grants to local groups and organisations that help make Bruton a kinder, more connected place to live.

If you'd like to support projects like this, or have an idea that could benefit our community, we'd love to hear from you.

Finally, a huge thank you to Katie and the team at FLOC for running such a vital support community in our town. It’s really incredible and we’re so grateful for your energy, time and dedication 💚

Appreciate it’s a hell of a day to be talking about warmth! But we're really pleased to be able to help Bruton Community Hall with a grant from the Bruton Community Fund, helping towards rising energy costs ⚡️♨️

Community spaces like the hall are part of everyday life for so many people in Bruton. They’re a vital resource for us all. But behind the scenes, keeping them warm, open and running is a constant challenge ✨✨✨

This support helps make sure the hall can continue to be there for everyone, while longer-term plans around energy efficiency and improvements take shape 💛

It’s a simple thing, but an important one. Because without spaces like this, it’s much harder for a community to come together and connect 💗

This is what community looks like in practice. People showing up for each other in small but meaningful ways.

Donations from local individuals and organisations help us provide small grants to good causes through the Bruton Community Fund. A big thank you to everyone who’s contributed so far. If you’d like to support more projects like this in the future, you can visit our website or drop us a DM for the donation link 🙌🏻✨

If you’d like to be in good company, whether with an idea, time or a donation, we’d love to hear from you > 📩[email protected]

As The Bruton Boost draws to a close tonight, it feels fitting that we ended with one of our most original events yet: NeuroRhythms with Sinead & friends ✨💛🎶

Part personal story, part collective exploration, part dance floor philosophy 🪩💛

Sinead shared her own experience of ADHD and reflected on the experiences of women and girls, including a line that landed hard with many in the room: “It’s like my head is a bag of squirrels.”

She spoke about hypersensitivity as a core part of many women’s ADHD experiences and asked a beautifully simple question: When have I felt happy, connected and grounded?

For her, the answer kept coming back to music. To dance floors. To DJing. To being with people without needing to explain yourself. 🎶🪩

Fairly recently, research began exploring the relationship between electronic music and neurodivergent nervous systems. The idea that repetitive rhythms and electronic sound can help create a sense of safety, helping connect body and brain and gently guide the nervous system away from overwhelm and towards rest and digest.

“On a dance floor, you don’t have to make eye contact. You don’t have to perform. You don’t even have to talk. You can go inward. You can simply be.” ✨✨✨

There was something bigger in today... A reminder that as adults, spaces for joy, freedom and shared experience become rarer.

As Leo Walton of Amateurism puts it: “Being on a dance floor. as you grow up and have more responsibility in life… that feeling of freedom has huge value.”

And as Tee Mango said: “The feeling of coming together with people you know and love becomes rarer and rarer.”

Maybe that’s been the point of The Bruton Boost all along. Not just talking about mental health, but creating moments where people can feel connected, grounded and a little more themselves. 🌱💚

Huge thanks to Sinead and ALL our amazing hosts for bringing such creativity and curiosity to The Bruton Boost, and to everyone involved for their energy, openness and brilliance this week ✨💛🎉

Big love to you from all of us here at Good Company 💚
