Thank you to everyone who has supported River Kids to make this possible. This is the second year of funding and we are fully committed to ensuring the support we receive goes to the places it is needed most. The difference these projects make to the development and wellbeing of so many pupils throughout West Lothian is huge.A special thanks to the school staff for their support in delivering these projects.
River Kids is helping create fairer opportunities for children across West Lothian through its Equal Opportunities Fund, awarding £37,000 to 19 schools and nurseries to support projects that enhance learning, wellbeing and personal development.
Through a range of targeted initiatives, River Kids Children's Charity is committed to reducing the impact of poverty and creating brighter futures for children and families across the community.
The funding will support a diverse range of initiatives, including sensory gardens, healthy snack programmes, cooking workshops and inclusive activities designed to improve wellbeing, build confidence and create meaningful opportunities for children to learn and grow.
This support will enable more than 1,200 children and young people to take part in enriching activities, educational experiences, and opportunities that support their personal development, regardless of their financial circumstances. By helping to remove economic obstacles, River Kids continues to champion equal opportunities for all, ensuring every child has the chance to thrive and reach their full potential.
Addiewell Primary School and nursery are one of the schools that are benefitting from the River Kids Equal Opportunities fund. River Kids Manager Stephen Newman visited the school where he met Head Teacher Eileen Brown who emphasised the impact that the project is already having on her pupils.
Mrs Brown said; “Through River kids providing funded snacks we can ensure that every child has access to the food they need to thrive. Snacks not only supports physical growth but also improves concentration and overall readiness to learn, helping children make the most of every opportunity in the classroom. River Kids is also providing opportunities for our children to try new foods and flavours. Our children love the variety of snack and eating it together as a class.”
Executive councillor for Education, Andrew McGuire also took part in the visit and spent time learning about the benefits of this initiative for pupils.
