The Met Office have issued a rare red warning for the extreme heat forecast this week. Members' safety always remains our priority and due to the risk of heat stroke, some of our trips are cancelled this week...

- The Day Centre at Lady Forester Hospital Trust, Broseley have cancelled their Lunch Club tomorrow (Wednesday 24 June)
- Bingo on Thursday evening (25 June) our transport (not bingo!) is cancelled.
- Friday shop this week (26 June) is cancelled.

We need volunteer community car drivers to help take our members in Broseley, Much Wenlock and surrounding areas to their appointments (usually medical).

Expenses paid, DBS check completed and you'll have a a supportive team! You decide when you might be available and whether you want to accept the journey request.

- It enables members to access their medical treatment, which is estimated to save nearly £300,000 in costs (according to our Social Value calculations).
- It gives reassurance to members when they need it most.

It's Volunteers' Week which is an annual UK-wide celebration recognizing the contributions of millions of volunteers. Whilst we celebrate our volunteers every day, we couldn't miss this opportunity to shine the spotlight on the fabulous work they do!

We are blessed with amazing volunteers and we couldn't support members of our communities without their help. The smiles in the photos below are because of them - whether it be providing support at medical appointments, being a befriender to help someone feel less lonely, helping members retain their independence by taking them shopping, or providing a fun day out. But most of all, our members benefit from social interaction and friendship. What a wonderful gift!

We're busy preparing for our Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held in July, where we'll be able to present our updated figures and show the impact we've had over this last year.

Coming to Broseley's Birchmeadow a week on Friday (29 May)!

It’ll be an afternoon of tea and cake, with an opportunity to meet people for a chat whilst trying your hand at boccia,” said Jim Hawkins, Wellbeing Services Development Officer at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. “We know that social opportunities like these can make a real difference to the wellbeing of older people.

We’ll make sure everyone gets a warm welcome.”

Join us for the launch of our new Boccia group this month in Broseley!

Individuals aged 55 and over are invited to a taster session at Birchmeadow Centre, TF12 5LP on Friday 29th May, 2:00pm - 4:00pm.

Boccia is an inclusive sport, open to people of all abilities and can often be described as a cross between bowls and pétanque. For £3 per person you can enjoy an afternoon of socialisation, tea and cake.

We would also like to thank South-East Shropshire PCN who kindly funded this group and supported the purchase of specialist Boccia equipment.

Change of trip!
On the last Thursday of this month (28 May), we'll now be going on a trip to Hollybush Garden Centre & Aquaria!
