Chair and Vice-Chair (in photo) caught up for some business over a delicious and filling lunch at a very busy Clyne Kitchen today.

John had the Pork, Black Pudding & Egg Terrine and the Chair indulged in the Spiced Lamb Kofta. Oh - and a side of chips too! Scrumptious.

Little business was completed till after the meal!

A big thank you to Dr Jim MacKay, Chair of the Kirkmichael Trust on the Black Isle, who spoke to us on Thursday.

An in-person audience of 51, together with 30 people online, were taken back to the time of the East Highland firth ferry crossings by Jim, who's talk was both very informative and entertaining.

Jim explored the often-perilous stories of the historic ferry crossings of the Cromarty, Dornoch and Littleferry Firths, including the Meikle Ferry crossing disaster of 1809, when 99 people lost their lives.

A great night was had by all.

Our next talk is on Thursday, April 16th, when Dr Liz Forrest will be speaking about 'Networks of Emigration: Scottish Pioneers to Patagonia’.

We have been thrilled to welcome back so many familiar faces and new ones to Clyne Kitchen over the last five days, since we re-opened on Wednesday. We think the addition of our new Clyne Parish map looks superb - showing the extent of our area.

The weather was even so warm that we were able to serve some of our lovely customers outside in the Brora sunshine on Friday!

Our hard-working staff will have a two-day break now, but will be ready to welcome you to Clyne Kitchen from Wednesday next week.

We will soon be extending our opening days, so watch this space for more updates - including news on our long-awaited Brora Heritage museum opening.

We’re back! 🎉

We’re delighted to say that Clyne Kitchen & Gift Shop reopened this morning at 9am — and it was wonderful for us to welcome both familiar faces and new visitors through the door.

We’ve been closed for the past 10 weeks while we fitted out the museum (opening very soon — just a few final snagging touches!) and extended our kitchen to meet the incredible demand we experienced after opening on 28 August. What was meant to be the quiet season certainly wasn’t!

Local contractors, Scott Grant (S D Grant Joinery Ltd) and David Freeman (D Freeman, Builder) pulled out all the stops for us to re-open on programme.

Our Chef, Stevie, is already enjoying the extra kitchen space, and with a second chef joining shortly, we’re gearing up for 7-day opening from May, including evening weekend meals over the summer.

Today was a soft relaunch, and it couldn’t have gone better — with our Chair and his wife first in for breakfast, closely followed by our Vice-Chair and his family!

Current opening hours:
🕘 Wednesday–Sunday, 9am–5pm
🍽️ Last food orders at 4pm (coffee & cake thereafter)
🚪 Closed Monday & Tuesday

We’re also proud to unveil our replica salt pan, beautifully designed by Jon Asanga, with input our friends at The Waggonway Project at Cockenzie, and built by David Freeman and Gavin MacKenzie. It looks fantastic — and this summer it will be back in action, producing salt just as it was on the Brora foreshore 200 and more years ago.
