Huge thanks to Bishops Frome Bingo for the lovely donation of £267 to our funds. We really are so grateful for support such as this - the lights only exist because of the wonderful generosity of various groups and individuals. Thank you!

With the death of Edgar Whiteley, we have lost one of our most loyal, hard working, longest serving and nicest member of the Light Brigade. After a period of declining health, he passed away earlier today.
Edgar was the first to spot a problem; the first out to help; always out in all weathers, never complaining. The very best of men.
We will miss him so much.

The moment the lights went out……

PLEASE PLEASE DON’T PARK IN THE SQUARE OVERNIGHT ON SATURDAY NIGHT OR ON SUNDAY!!!!

We start taking the lights down this Sunday first thing and the first job is to fell the tree, and we would rather not try to do it with cars around. Trying to trace a car owner is exceedingly difficult. And apologies to everyone for any delays due to our teams being at work!

We hope you enjoyed the displays this time. Now to start planning for next Christmas!

Thank you!!

Well, it’s nearly all over! The lights will be on again this evening (well, it is Epiphany - wise men from the East and all that stuff. Did you know that in many countries, today is the day of present-giving?) and we will be going around listing and photographing all the obvious faults, getting ready to dismantle then commencing this coming Sunday, and probably the following Sunday as well, as it is getting increasingly difficult to do them in one day. Storing them all away safely is a bit of a task too!
We have had our share of technical problems this year. After the scaffolding was taken down on the Hop Pole, we had an intermittent fault on the tree which we eventually traced (after Christmas as well) to a loose connection in a rather hidden distributor box, most likely caused by the cable being pulled. The Angel is not well, and some major work will be needed on that. And, of course, the top spoon on the Pudding has gradually disappeared, most likely because of a section of faulty ropelight. We also had problems with a feed clock. They seem quite minor but they all needed fixing. Thankfully, the ordinary LED lamp bulbs are doing extremely well, and they are over ten years old now. In reality, the system is hugely more reliable than it once was, especially when you near in mind the complexity of all those displays.
So, APOLOGIES AGAIN for any delays or disruption on the next two Sundays - we will do our best to keep delays to a minimum but, of course, safety is our absolute priority.
Happy New Year, everyone!

We’ve had a few silly little problems this week, hopefully all cured - except the tree. Sadly the removal of scaffolding from the Hop Pole resulted in some damage to the wiring - an initial repair seems not to have worked so more work will be needed. Apologies for the tree being only half illuminated!

On no, not again! The rumours that we might be planning to make this the last year of Bromyard Christmas Lights ARE JUST NOT TRUE! They keep resurfacing, and we keep getting asked if is IS true - which it isn’t!
The worries, which we did have, were over the management of the crowds on the actual switch-on day. Thankfully, our plans to reduce the size of the event, coupled with the decision to not have any parades, made management and, in particular, crowd control much easier, so we can hopefully look forward with much more confidence. Let us hope, and pray, that Bromyard Christmas Lights will be here to enjoy for many generations to come!

Hurrah! After two hours work on the controller on Lisa’s Star - part up in the air and part in the workshop - it’s working again, with a new Arduino and programme. Hopefully, it will behave itself now……..

Would you believe it! Lisa’s star is out again. So sorry - no idea why! Grrrrrrr. We will investigate on Monday when we can get a machine down there. In the meantime, the pudding has another new plate….. These little faults are rather irritating!!

Well, Lisa’s star is on at last! Tonight we managed to relocate all the cables back onto the Hop Pole ready for the scaffolders to take their stuff away, which also enabled us to reconnect the star, which now shines as brightly as it should! We also spent a very long time trying to get the Angel right, which was only partially successful. Sadly the storm just before the switch-on caused a lot of water damage (there are a huge number of connections on it) which can only really be repaired by taking it down. But it does look heaps better, but not really good enough for us! It was overhauled and tested before it was installed so there is no doubt when the problem arose. So much more to do before next year. Anyway, enjoy the lights!!

We are out late this afternoon / early evening, moving cables from the scaffolding on the Hop Pole and replacing them on the building, so the scaffold can be removed, plus carrying out repairs to the Angel and Star in the Square.

Please don’t park in the far right space in the Square - we need access to the lights in that area. Thank you!!!

There is always one!!!Please, if it’s yours, move it / if you know who owns it, please ask them.
