The reality is, successive governments have managed the decline of our defence since 1990.

It’s time the public consider the message we are clearly about to receive, the government is about to tell us we’re on the brink of catastrophe with insufficient defensive measures to meet the growing threat.

Eight weeks ago we were told social security was the top priority, next week you will be told taxes must go up to the tune of 35 billion to ensure we can meet the global threat!

Ponder….

WHO IS REALLY BUYING POLITICAL INFLUENCE?

Reform’s major donors are accused of buying political power. But if money equals influence, should Britain be asking the same questions about Labour’s relationship with the trade unions?

The latest row over political donations has reopened an old question in British politics.

When does financial support become political influence?

Reform UK has received two extraordinary £36 million donations, prompting accusations from Labour supporters that wealthy individuals are attempting to buy political power.

That deserves scrutiny.

But scrutiny must work both ways.

Labour has relied on trade union funding for generations. Affiliated unions contribute significant sums to the party while openly seeking political outcomes that benefit their members.

Again, perfectly legal.

But here is the question nobody seems particularly keen to ask.

There are millions of trade union members across Britain.

How many joined because they wanted workplace representation, legal protection, collective bargaining and support from their employer?

And how many joined because they wanted to financially support the Labour Party?

Those are not necessarily the same thing.

Since February 2026, new members joining unions with political funds may automatically contribute unless they actively opt out.

So how many people actually understand where that part of their subscription may eventually go?

More importantly, how many union members even vote Labour?

Some vote Conservative.

Some vote Reform.

Some vote Liberal Democrat.

Some vote Green.

Some vote for nobody at all.

So if we are genuinely concerned about money influencing politics, the debate cannot simply become:

“Billionaire donations are bad, trade union donations are good.”

That is intellectually lazy.

One billionaire knowingly signing a cheque for £36 million is clearly making a political choice.

But what about hundreds of thousands of workers collectively funding political activity while perhaps having completely different political views?

The issue here is not Reform.

It is not Labour.

It is not the unions.

It is consistency.

If Britain wants a serious debate about political funding, then let us have one.

Full transparency.

Clear consent.

Clear disclosure.

And the same standards applied to everybody.

Because perhaps the real question is not:

WHO FUNDS POLITICS?

Perhaps it is:

WHO DOES THAT MONEY BUY INFLUENCE WITH?

And did the people providing it actually know what they were funding?

CONCERNED CITIZEN

Fair questions. Better politics.

And the Electorate demand a better society, a fairer society, a lawful society, a prosperous society, an opportunistic economy, a balanced economy.

Then what do the politicians want?

Because these things just don’t seem to align?

The Left Affect is Leading Britain to a Political and Economic Crossroads With Andy Burnham.

The debate is no longer simply about left versus right. It is about whether the balance between contribution and dependency has fundamentally broken down.

Millions of working people feel trapped. Taxes are rising. Housing is unaffordable. Public services are stretched. Yet many increasingly believe the reward for hard work is shrinking year after year.

The concern surrounding politicians such as Andy Burnham is not just ideology. It is the fear that Britain continues expanding state dependency without rebuilding the productive economy needed to sustain it.

This is where the conversation becomes uncomfortable.

A country cannot endlessly increase public spending while productivity stagnates. Eventually the people and businesses carrying the financial burden begin asking whether the system still works for them.

At the same time, Britain must absolutely protect genuinely vulnerable people. A civilised society should always support those who need help. But support and aspiration must exist together. If work, responsibility and ambition no longer feel worthwhile, social cohesion begins to fracture.

The real issue is not benefits alone. It is the wider failure to grow, and the failure to protect the British people from economic exploitation.

Britain does not need endless redistribution politics. It needs growth, productivity and leadership willing to tell the truth about the scale of reform required.

The next decade will be shaped by one defining question:

Can Britain rebuild a system where hard work, contribution and ambition are visibly rewarded again, while still protecting those genuinely in need?

Because if the public loses faith in that balance entirely, the consequences politically, economically and socially will be enormous.

I foresee the English Channel parting, and indigenous taxpaying Brit leaving the UK in their droves!
