Bromsgrove Speakers Club

Bromsgrove Speakers Club We help our members to develop their skills and confidence for public speaking, presenting and chairing meetings. And we aim to make it an enjoyable experience.

We are an independent not-for-profit club run by our members. We provide learning on all aspects of public speaking and presenting. Beginner or experienced speaker, we can help you. Membership is open to anyone age 18 and above. We meet fortnightly on Tuesday evenings, all year round. And it doesn't matter when you join us in the year, as each meeting is self-contained.

Wow, what a wonderful evening! Three speeches to camera in our VideoFest, followed by lots of helpful feedback for the speakers from the audience.

Then an entertaining educational exercise where members had to use gestures rather than words for description.

After the interval we had our regular impromptu speaking session but with a twist that encouraged creative speaking! The feedback on the session was provided by a member taking on the role for the first time and doing it very well.

And the icing on the proverbial cake was a new member joining us and a second time visitor asking to join!

Just 24 hours until our next meeting!
The camera is ready to roll for the VideoFest! But only the speakers will see the video of their speech.

At our next meeting on June 16th we are holding our VideoFest, where speakers deliver c.5 minute speeches to camera. Afterwards they receive a copy of their video so they can see and hear what the audience experienced.

The VideoFest is just one of a number of activities throughout the year that bring variety and learning to our meetings.

Did you know that you can make money from speaking? Various organisations will pay you to speak at meetings or events.
But you must have a compelling story and be a good speaker.

The compelling story is down to you but we can help you to become a confident and effective speaker.

Why not book a free Taster Evening with us to find out how we could help you?

Wow! Three brilliant speeches at last night’s meeting.

Firstly David J delivered an impressive Module 3, which is about using body language.

Then Cordell gave a fabulous demonstration of how to use voice variation (Module 4) to give impact to a speech.

And our third speaker, Claire, gave a perfect demonstration of how to deliver a balanced argument (Module 15), in this case discussing the pros and cons of picnics.

"Bromsgrove Speakers Club is highly welcoming for nervous speakers. Their speaker development program allows you to practice at your own pace without pressure."

So says Google AI. I'm sure that tomorrow's visitors will agree.

At last night's meeting we were forced into late agenda changes. We had one new member give a very good first speech followed by our usual impromptu speaking session, but before rather than after the interval.

We were then able to have a team speaking event after the interval. The theme was camping with one team discussing low cost camping and the other team speaking about the rather more glamorous glamping.

Both teams had either had a lot of experience of camping or they were very creative!

The theme for Tuesday's meeting is Jobs & Occupations. Presumably a job is where you get paid and an occupation is something that fills your time. Like running a speakers club!

It's good to see our newer members starting to take on roles at meetings. Chairing meetings, providing feedback for other members etc. is all part of our development programme.

At our meeting on Tuesday evening we welcomed a new member as well as a first time visitor and a returning visitor. We offer two free visits so that potetential members can see what we do and how we do it.

During the first half of the meeting six members gave six very different presentations with the aid of PowerPoint slides. One gave an insight into dyslexia by showing how similarly shaped letters such as b, d, p and q can be flipped by the brain, hence making reading difficult.

After the interval those who hadn't spoken in the first half had the opportunity to speak for two minutes on a subject they were given immediately before being called to speak.
