Hi

In reference to the Natural Networks Plan from 2021, its no longer online, but we found a copy in July 25.

This is the 5 year old plan that is referenced by CHNM PC, and BDC Environmental services team.

Lingfield Park is now also the site for the annual fireworks display, this was not the case in 2021

From our reading ref Lingfield: - Lingfield Wildlife Walk

Recommendations for Enhancement (Section 4): Explicitly details the rotational management plan (cutting only 25% of scrub per year) and the instruction to widen existing pathways rather than perform large-scale clearances.

And the really important one -

All enhancement work must be carried out in accordance with wildlife legislation

Legislative and Biosecurity Constraints (Section 6): Mandates that all work, specifically scrub clearance, must take place outside of the bird nesting season (March to August inclusive) to comply with the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

We are still awaiting a response from CHNM PC following our email on Friday.

Regarding Lingfield Park!

We’ve been contacted by a large number of concerned residents following recent scrub / copse clearance at Lingfield Park, Catshill., this week and we share those concerns.

The works, carried out in May, have removed established scrub habitat that supported local wildlife including hedgehogs, foxes, and butterflies.

This is also peak nesting season for birds, making this a particularly sensitive time for this type of activity.

We understand that these works may have been linked to a proposal for a nature walk put forward by Catshill and North Marlborough Parish Council.

However, we have received multiple reports from residents that no consultation took place prior to the works being carried out.

We are especially concerned that:

- The works appear to have taken place without meaningful public consultation

- Established habitat has been removed and fragmented in May

- There is no clear public explanation of the ecological reasoning behind the works

- The works appear inconsistent with the principles of the Worcestershire Local Nature Recovery Strategy, particularly in relation to habitat protection and connectivity, and the UK priority species hedgehog.

Scrub habitats play a vital role in supporting wildlife, providing shelter, food, and connectivity between green spaces. Once removed, these habitats can take years to recover.

We have now formally contacted both the Parish Council and Bromsgrove District Council to request:

- Details of any ecological assessments carried out

- Confirmation that wildlife checks (including nesting birds) were undertaken

- An explanation of how and why this decision was made

We believe local communities should be informed and consulted on changes like this, particularly where they affect biodiversity and our shared green spaces.

If you have information, photos, or observations from the site, please feel free to share them with us.

Our email is [email protected]

We will continue to follow this closely and will provide updates as we receive further information.

You’ve love & protect Hares! πŸ’―

St Melangell's Day - May 27th

Melangell was an Irish princess in the 7th/8th century who fled an arranged marriage and became a consecrated virgin in the wilderness of the Kingdom of Powys, Wales living as a hermit in the Berwyn Mountains.

She supernaturally protected a hare from a prince's hunting dogs, when the Prince of Powys discovered her while hunting, his hounds fled from a hare that had taken refuge under her cloak. The prince granted her land to found a sanctuary and convent.

Since the medieval period, she has been venerated as the patron saint of hares, rabbits, small animals and the natural environment.
