As part of the Big Help Out Weekend 2026, Bromley Explorer Scouts will be sleeping out at Greenwich Naval College for the night to support Bromley Homeless, a local charity which helps those who are at risk of, or have become, Homeless.

Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18. Being an Explorer is all about discovering the world on your own terms and making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are. Sleeping out in the unique location of Greenwich Naval College, the Explorers will develop their understanding of homelessness while fundraising to support their local Homeless charity.

To support their fundraising efforts, you can donate via their Just Giving:

Our night shelter closed on the 15th April, marking the end of another winter season. We gave 176 bed nights to rough sleepers, housed 17 guests across our five bedrooms, and we had 121 volunteers providing meals, laundry and overnight support.

One client — let's call her Harmony — came to us after being evicted due to poor physical health. After six weeks in the shelter, we found her a home.

She emailed us last week:

“I just want to Thank bromley homeless and yourself and the team for being so supportive and kind during my support of my homeless situation, Having over come the obstacles faced by the council not giving me support Kim Rachel Emma and Yvette guided supported and helped me during my breakdowns and kept me positive throughout sorting and helping and sustaining my accommodation without their help I wouldn’t have gotten the flat suitable for me and the location needed, I will be forever grateful.
The team are a blessing. Not to forget the volunteers and the shelter which was a safe haven and the friends I made whilst being there. The organisation and the team are inspiring and all have hearts of gold it is so refreshing to see in todays society. Honestly thank you so much to all of you, you are all incredible people. I will never forget the support and kindness I received.”

Between October and December 2025, 2,250 people were recorded sleeping rough for the first time in London — that’s around 750 people per month, or roughly the size of a school classroom every single day.

Behind every number is a person — someone’s son or daughter, someone who has fallen through the cracks, someone who needs support, not stigma.

At Bromley Homeless, we see first-hand how quickly circumstances can change — and how life-changing the right support can be.

🏅 Thanks to our Marathon Runners!

Congratulations to Laura Glazebrook and Vanessa Parsons for completing the London Marathon on Sunday 26 April 2026 to support the work of Bromley Homeless 💜🏃‍♀️

Laura completed the course in 4 hours 42 minutes, and Vanessa in 5 hours 22 minutes! 🎉

Vanessa has volunteered at our winter night shelter ❄️ and her employer generously matched donations up to £1,000 💛

Laura ran in memory of her Aunty Jenny, who experienced homelessness during a difficult period with her mental health. Bromley Homeless, in partnership with the local council, helped her rebuild her life, reconnect with her family, and move into a new home 🏠 The kindness of unpaid volunteers — who supported her right to the very end — left a lasting impact 💛

Supporters were on the route to cheer Laura and Vanessa on. "Good luck! I'll be up there cheering with my Bromley Homeless t-shirt on, it's an amazing day you'll love every minute of it!" wrote Mark Draycott, who ran to support the work of Bromley Homeless in the 2025 London Marathon 👕📣

Laura has raised a stunning £2,130 (so far) for the work of Bromley Homeless (plus £278.75 in Gift Aid) 🌟 Vanessa has raised a stunning £2,083.90 (so far) (plus £446.56 in Gift Aid) 🌟
Together that is an incredible combined total of over £4,900 raised — and counting! 💜✨

Many thanks to all of you who supported Vanessa and Laura and our work for homeless people in Bromley 🙏 If you would like to add to this total on JustGiving, you can find their pages below 👇

Today's the day! 🏃‍♀️💜

Vanessa and Laura are lacing up their trainers and taking on the London Marathon for Bromley Homeless — and we couldn't be more proud of them both.

Vanessa has volunteered at our winter night shelter and her employer is matching donations up to £1,000 — so every pound goes even further. 💛

Laura is running in memory of her Aunty Jenny, who experienced homelessness during a difficult period with her mental health. Bromley Homeless, in partnership with the local council, helped her rebuild her life, reconnect with her family, and move into a new home. The kindness of unpaid volunteers — who supported her right to the very end — left a lasting impact. 💛

26.2 miles. Two incredible women. One cause that matters more than ever.

If you can donate even a small amount, you'll be helping us continue the life-changing work that made Jenny's story possible — and so many others like it.

A huge thank you to Feel Good Events for their incredible support of Bromley Homeless.

As part of a TV Apprentice-themed team building event in Newport, Terry Bird of Rockitfish donated on behalf of their client Crane CP & E:

£360 worth of portable emergency sleeping pods — helping to keep people warm and sheltered while rough sleeping

£180 worth of non-perishable food and essential items — supporting our food bank and the individuals and families who rely on it

These practical, thoughtful donations make a real and immediate difference to people facing homelessness. From warmth and protection on the streets to food on the table, this generosity will be felt across our community.

Thank you to everyone involved for turning team building into community impact.

For years, one of our clients had nowhere to call home. Her church community supported her as best they could, but when they moved premises, she found herself on the streets — wandering at night, sofa-surfing when she could.

Despite mobility issues and health problems, she showed incredible determination — coming to us regularly to search for accessible, affordable housing.

Finding suitable accommodation on housing benefits is no easy feat. But after first coming to us in November, she secured a ground-floor studio flat in January.

She now has the safe, stable home she deserves. And even through everything she has faced, she continues to serve others as a minister committed to her community.

We are also still supporting her friend, who shared this journey with her, to find a safe and stable home too.

Because everyone deserves a place to call home. 🏠
