Rotary Club of Margate at the Sunken Garden Eco Fair

Rotary Club of Margate was delighted to support the Sunken Garden Eco Fair today – a wonderful community event celebrating wildlife, gardening, sustainability and the environment.

There was so much to see, with stalls featuring reptiles, felt hats, local honey from the Beekeepers’ Association, cakes, plants, homemade soaps and much more!

A huge thank you to the fascinating speakers who shared their knowledge and enthusiasm throughout the day, including David Whitehead and Jack Scott from Quex Farms, Get Wild, Paul Twyman and Steve Edney from The No Name Nursery.

Congratulations to everyone involved in organising such an interesting and enjoyable community event.

A huge thank you to Ryan Day for joining us this evening and sharing the fantastic work happening within the Margate Football Club community⁠.

The club is about so much more than football — supporting people across our community through its Friday homeless project, providing food, clothing, friendship and support; an Over 55s project offering companionship and a garden transformation project; and safe, welcoming spaces for over 600 young people to play and build lasting friendships.

There’s also an after-school Youth Zone for homework and creative projects, plus the wonderful Golden Ticket scheme, providing free family football tickets through local schools.

A brilliant example of a football club right at the heart of its community.

Rotary in Action – Keeping Margate Beautiful! 🌞

Members of the Rotary Club of Margate were out and about today, litter picking along Margate Esplanade and the main road.

With the sunshine and sea as our backdrop, we collected several bags of rubbish and did our bit to help keep our wonderful town and coastline clean and welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

An evening of fun, fellowship and mussels.

Fun fact about croquet:

Early Roots: Similar stick-and-ball games date back to the Middle Ages, resembling French paille-maille(pall-mall).
Modern Birth: The rules were formalized in Ireland during the 1830s before sweeping through Victorian England.
Wimbledon Connection: The famous club hosting the Wimbledon tennis championships was founded in 1868 specifically as the All England Croquet Club.

A wonderful Meet the President afternoon spent with Rotary members, friends and family.

A huge thank you to our Immediate Past President, Janet Hughes, for so generously hosting the event in her beautiful garden. It was the perfect setting to celebrate the start of a new Rotary year.

We wish our President, Marie Njie, every success and happiness for her presidential year. We look forward to supporting her as she leads the Rotary Club of Margate and continues to make a positive difference in our local community and beyond.
