The autumn equinox marks a moment of equal day and night and the turning of the seasons. It’s a chance to celebrate the harvest, reflect on the year so far and prepare for winter.

Today we created this seasonal display using items from around the farm, representing the earth, light and autumn’s changing colours.

Despite a challenging year with little rainfall, we’ve had successes. Our pumpkins are nearly ready for our lantern walk 🎃, while aubergines, tomatoes and flowers have thrived in the heat.

Our fruit trees have struggled, so this winter we’ll be giving them some extra care with plenty of weeding and mulch ready for spring.

After months of planting, watering and caring for our plants, harvest time is finally here. We are now busy gathering everything that has grown over the summer.
We love seeing all these colours!

Very soon, we will be turning our harvest into delicious jams, chutneys and preserves.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Coffee Morning!☕️

From the greeting and table service teams to the shop, payments, kitchen, hot drinks and dishwashing teams, the Heathfield Farm attendees demonstrated some amazing skills.

Everyone enjoyed the experience and seem keen to do it all over again!

To our customers, thank you for your patience, kindness and continued support — it really means a lot to us.

We were very lucky to welcome Blue, a friend of Heathfield Farm, who brought along her fascinating collection of bugs and insects for us to meet.
Everyone had the chance to look closely at these incredible creatures, and for the brave ones, even hold and gently pet them! 🐞🕷️🪲
They may have looked a little strange at first, but each one was beautiful in its own unique way. Some were so well camouflaged that they blended perfectly into their surroundings—it was a real challenge to spot them!
A huge thank you to Blue for such an unforgettable and hands-on experience. 💚

We had a lovely day at Killerton House after being invited to take part in one of their nature-based workshops.

We started by exploring the orchard, collecting things of different colours, shapes and textures to make our own collages. It was amazing to see how many interesting things we could find just by looking a little closer!

Next, we had a go at flower pounding, arranging leaves and flowers onto fabric before using a mallet to transfer the natural colours. It was something most of us had never tried before and everyone enjoyed seeing the different patterns appear.

After that, we helped colour in a mural filled with animals before taking a gentle walk up to the picnic tent for a well-earned break. We finished the afternoon with a few outdoor games.

A big thank you to the team at National Trust Killerton for inviting us along. We had a wonderful time and loved trying something different together. 🌿💚

Thank you to everyone who came along on Saturday to support Heathfield Farm and Devon Dig & Donate on our Open Day, which was an overwhelming success.
The feedback has been nothing but positive. The site was bustling with visitors throughout the afternoon, creating a wonderful atmosphere, and we even ran out of parking spaces!
Highlights included watching attendees join in with the Grimspound Border Morris dancers, the brief appearance of the Bradninch Red Barrows, and, of course, the raffle, which always creates a great deal of excitement.
Special thanks to Grimspound Border Morris, the Devon Link-Up trustees for hosting the BBQ, and to everyone who mucked in with the preparation, tidying and maintenance of the site and all those who helped out on the day. We genuinely could not have delivered such a successful and enjoyable afternoon without your time, enthusiasm and support.

This is how we’re keeping cool in this heat! ☀️

This week we are making paper fans, and our new water mister has been a huge hit with everyone!

Add in plenty of squash and lots of ice lollies, and we have the perfect recipe for staying refreshed and having fun. 🍧😎
