JOIN US ON PEEL BEACH FOR THE KING'S BATON RELAY . . .

BEACH Buddies is honoured to have been chosen to take possession of the King's Barton on its second day on the Isle of Man on Peel beach on Sunday June 14th.

We are hoping to have as many Beach Buddies volunteers as possible to welcome the baton, with the event being covered by TV, radio and news media.

The schedule is for the baton to arrive on the lifeboat at Peel breakwater at 12 noon on Sunday June 14th and it will be carried around to the beach by Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale and his daughter Roseanna, a long time trustee of Beach Buddies.

The baton will then be carried round to Peel beach and we would love to see as many of our volunteers as possible on the beach at the western end closest to the swingbridge.

Parking may be tight, so please arrive in good time to get a spot. There will then be a 30 minute beach cleaning session on Peel beach by our volunteers.

Please be ready to have your photograph taken!

A BRANCH OF BEACH BUDDIES IN THE PHILLIPPINES?

THE possibility of a branch of Beach Buddies being set up in The Phillippines is a strong possibility following a discussion with a team of volunteers last weekend.

Four local members of MCGI (Members Church of God International), an international Christian religious organisation headquartered in the Philippines, joined us for our regular weekend event, this time in Silverdale Glen.

They reported that the Phillippines has a massive problem with rubbish on its beaches (and streets) but they do have a huge number of people who could help (population 118 million).

If they could replicate what has happened in the Isle of Man - with 25% of our population of 84,000 getting involved - then they could copy an example which can easily be followed anywhere in. the world.

It's not the first time MCGI has joined Beach Buddies - they have taken part in our beach cleaning events a number of times and have expressed their support not only for what we are doing in the Isle of Man, but in particular our numerous connections around the world.

Our connections include the USA, the Caribbean, Hong Kong, Australia, Europe, the Island Innovations network (500+ islands) and a strong presence in the north of England and across Scotland.

So, this new connection with people from The Phillippines is another example of how the Isle of Man is setting a world-leading example and reinforces the praise we have received internationally to be the island with the cleanest beaches in the world.

• If you are visiting the Isle of Man and would like your village / town / city / countryside to look as good (not just on beaches, but streets, parks, footpaths, mountains - anywhere) please get in touch. www.beachbuddies.org.im or email [email protected]

TT LEGEND DAVE MOLYNEUX MAKES HIS DEBUT FOR BEACH BUDDIES

TT legend Dave Molyneux and his wife Kate and son Lhennie, 9, made their Beach Buddies’ debut when they joined us this week for a clean-up of the Motor Isle Bar & Grill Billown circuit before the Pre-TT Classic races this weekend, in which Dave is racing his vintage Suzuki sidecar.

The record 17 times TT sidecar winner joined Beach Buddies for the annual clean-up around the Billown circuit before this weekend’s Pre-TT Classic race meeting. By sheer coincidence, Dave Molyneux’s son had already taken part in a beach cleaning event earlier in the day on Ramsey beach with Sulby Primary School, so a big shout-out to Lhennie - and he said he really enjoyed both clean-up events.

It was the 15th year Beach Buddies has held this clean-up event in support of the Southern 100 and Pre-TT Classic. We are delighted to be associated with this wonderful team of people.

Our photograph also includes Ron Ronan who, together with his life-long friend David Wilkinson, came up with the original idea of a Pre-TT and Southern 100 clean-up 15 years ago. Ron has taken part in the clean-up every year since, plus an identical pre-event clean-up every year in support of the Southern 100 races.

We had 11 volunteers at the Southern 100 course last night and they collected an impressive amount of rubbish, estimated at 100kg, plus one item - found by Dave Molyneux - which on its own weighed in at around 30kg. It was the broken remains of an electric cable pylon.

A massive thankyou to everyone who helped last night, which included five new faces who all looked like they had enjoyed themselves, despite not very pleasant weather conditions. We hope to see you again.

And the very best wishes from everyone at Beach Buddies to Dave Molyneux in the racing this weekend.

This evening (Tuesday) Beach Buddies will be heading to the Motor Isle Bar & Grill Billown Course to support the organisers of the Pre-TT Classic Road Races 🏍️

We’ll be carrying out a clean-up around the entire course to help ensure it’s looking its very best for residents and visiting race fans this weekend.

Please meet at the Southern 100 Headquarters (location in the comments) at 6pm. From there, we’ll split into groups and each take on a section of the course.

We’d love to see as many volunteers there as possible! 🙌

A huge thank you to the 48 volunteers who joined us at Derbyhaven last Sunday, including 8 first-time volunteers.

Together we removed around 130kg of rubbish from the beach, along with a massive rope and chain weighing an estimated 150kg. The rope and chain were too heavy to move on the day, so they’ll be collected separately using our trailer.
