Happy Friday moth-lovers 💫🌝✨

Here are some of our favourite floofballs from the garden for your enjoyment 🥹

Super cute to us, but the ‘fluff’ is actually scales which help keep moths warm, absorb bat sonar and escape from webs more easily (as they fall off easily).

Meet the Garden Tiger moth!

Next up in our moth spotlight series… the iconic and striking moth that has some pretty impressive ways to defend itself! Shame these strategies don’t defend against w**d killer or our human ‘need’ for neatness.

Have you been lucky enough to see one? Or will you now leave the w**ds to help them out?

We’ve been guilty of sharing the moths we think will wow people.

We choose the vibrant and colourful or dramatic hawk moths because the mainstream narrative is that moths are brown, boring pests that eat your clothes. GOD FORBID 🤭

And we want to change that wild misconception!

But the truth is, when you get to hang out with moths up close you see that ‘even’ the browns ones are beautiful.

Their markings and details are not only beautiful but incredible examples of evolution helping these moths to survive by blending into their surroundings.

Here’s a diverse mix of magical brown moths for you to marvel at.

As always, these are moths we’ve seen in Bristol or on our travels. No fancy camera, just my phone.

We’ve heard so many people say they find moths creepy, gross or just plain boring. And we get it!

If your experience of moths is the dusty little ones bumbling about your bathroom light or nibbling mysterious holes in your jumpers, they’re not exactly selling themselves well.

But moths are so much more than that 🥹

They are beautiful, delicate and wildly diverse little creatures humbly working hard while butterflies get all the attention. (We love you too butterflies!! 🦋😘)

This post is for the sceptics. The ones who only see the brown flappy wings and the scrawny long legs. 🌙

Show it to your moth-hating pals and help them see the light. 🌝✨🌙

Moths. Rainbows after dark 🌈🌙

They don’t shout for attention, they don’t need the spotlight… and yet, look at them! Humble flashes of vibrant beauty going about their business while we’re all asleep.

Magic without the fanfare. ✨

This little lot have all been found in Bristol gardens - the rainbows are on our doorstep!

Meet the Muslin moth!

There’s so much to say about some moths we thought we’d start a little spotlight post on individual species.

First up - the sweetest little garden floof that we’ve seen twice this week in the trap - the Muslin!

Anyone else got a soft spot for this guy?

It was wet. Then it was windy.
Then it was really bloody cold at night.

But that’s the beauty of nature and it won’t stop us admiring every single little moth that greets us in the morning.

Here’s a little round up of some of the moths we’ve met this Spring in our garden and on a little trip up to Eryri.

Enjoy! Who knows who we shall meet in the morning 🌝💫✨

Not all nights are created equal in the moth world… it’s part of the thrill!!

Some mornings the trap is chocca.
Others, it’s three moths and a spider.

This is not a rule book. I’ve had great catches on might where the moon is full and bright. But it’s a good place to start and might help you understand why numbers might be lower than you’d hoped.

Once you start noticing the conditions, you can roughly predict your chances 👀

Weather apps at the ready!!!
