Know a community organisation deserving of recognition?

We're launching a brand new award in partnership with Taste of the West to celebrate the incredible charities and groups working at a grassroots level to improve lives through food.

If you know of an organisation, group or charity making a difference in your community, we'd love to hear about them. It could be a community pantry, food club, hot meals service, cookery class or surplus food project.

The Community Table Award is free to enter and open to even the smallest, grassroots projects.

You can enter yourself or nominate a group (with their permission).

The winner and runner up will be announced at Taste of the West's Awards ceremony on February 2 2027.

Please share details with the local heroes in your community. We know there are so many of them and this is a chance to shine a light on the incredible work they do!

Deadline to apply is Wednesday 4 November.

Community, connection and good food: what more could you ask from a festival?

We were thrilled to be at Wells Food Festival to talk local food and sustainability at the weekend.

Event sponsor Charlie Bigham's joined FareShare South West and other local charities, community groups and advocates in the Food for Thought tent.

Festival goers also heard from Tessa Munt, MP for Wells and Mendip, and our own Head of Communications Susie Day, who explained why good food goes to waste in our broken food system, and how FareShare South West joins the dots between that food and the local community.

It was so encouraging to hear many strong local voices working for a sustainable, fair and secure food system.

And it was a great opportunity to meet grassroots organisations doing amazing work, like Shepton Mallet Community Fridge, and to see our friends at Charlie Bigham's. We've been working with Charlie Bigham's since 2022 and their surplus meals are a huge hit with the charities we support.

Please visit our website for more on the festival and how we work with food suppliers and local charities. Link in the comments 👇

Right now, it’s cheaper for a business to waste food than to give it to people. This is the wrong way round.

We are joining the call for a small change that could help fix this and ensure good food reaches more people.

Our national partner Felix has written an open letter to the Chancellor asking for simple tax changes that would make redistribution the economically viable first choice for surplus food.

Policy changes like this mean FareShare South West will be able to rescue more food to share with local people.

We know how many grassroots organisations are having a huge impact in their communities, often with minimal resources. If you represent a charity or community organisation, please add your voice to Felix’s Redistribution Revolution and sign their open letter via the link in the comments 👇

We're still dreaming about homemade ravioli! 😋

A huge thank you to Ben and the team at Studio Bianchis for welcoming our FareChance group into their Easton kitchen for a pasta making session!

Our unique employability programme offers practical warehouse skills and tailored support from our south Bristol hub. But opportunities like this add so much to the overall experience.

It's a chance for our FareChance participants to trial different industries, learn new skills, have a good time and a change of scene. They also got to make and enjoy some incredible ravioli!

Thanks so much to the whole Studio Bianchis team, and our FareChance cohort, for being brilliant! We're excited for things to come.

A big thank you to the wonderful people in Knowle West!

We launched our first ever produce pantry yesterday at The Park Centre and were blown away by the incredibly positive response!

So many people queued up to fill their bags full of fresh, seasonal fruit and veg.

Customer Amber had this to say: "This seems amazing, it's very good value.

"My son is really fussy with his foods. He is autistic and he only wants to eat pizza and bread every day. So, getting some extra fruit and vegetable into him at a brilliant price is ideal.

"This is just brilliant for us; it's a great initiative."

The produce pantries are open to everyone. We charge up to £3 to fill a bag with a mixed selection of fresh fruit and veg.

We'll be back in Knowle West each Wednesday at 1pm and will be launching pantries at 224YouthZone and Avonmouth Community Centre in the coming weeks.

Thank you so much to everyone who made this happen, from our partners, staff and volunteers to the wonderful customers who turned out for our first pantry! 🍎🫑

"It is a special place. And it’s so needed."

This is what volunteer Rachael told us about Rose Cottage Community Hub and Cafe when we visited recently.

The community cafe in Twerton has a weekly delivery of food from FareShare South West, which chef Morgan transforms into homecooked meals. People come in to get a good meal at a price they can afford but end up with so much more, whether that's a chat or access to support services.

“The food is wonderful and people really love it. For some people, it might be the only meal they’ve had that day or the only hot meal that they’ve had all week," says volunteer Jo.

We are incredibly proud to work with so many wonderful local organisations, like Rose Cottage, who play a vital role in their communities. We know that food can be the catalyst for so many positive things and that really shines through when we visit.

Thank you to all of the Rose Cottage team for all you do, and to our supporters who make our work possible.

Could you do just one thing to support this work? Donate if you’re able, volunteer in our Bristol or Plymouth Hubs or sign up for news and updates via the link in our comments 👇

Launching next week!

We're so excited to be bringing the first pop-up pantry to The Park Centre in Knowle West next Wednesday.

Open to everyone, this new weekly mobile pantry will bring fresh, seasonal fruit and veg directly to communities in Bristol.

We'll be at The Park Centre from 1pm-2pm on Wednesdays each week, selling produce from our van for up to £3 for a mixed bag.

The idea is to make good, healthy food more accessible for everyone. We'll be launching in 224YouthZone in Hartcliffe and Avonmouth Community Centre in Avonmouth in the coming weeks.

We couldn't do this without the wonderful teams at The Park Centre, 224 Youth Zone and Avonmouth Community Centre, as well as our team of staff and volunteers, who have been working hard behind the scenes to get this new project off the ground.

Please come along to The Park Centre on Wednesday, and bring a bag. We can't wait to see you there. 🍎

We know the power of food.

We know it can bring people together, help build resilience, break down barriers and bring joy. And we know there are an incredible number of small groups, charities and organisations who do this every day in our communities.

We're therefore proud to launch The Community Table Award in partnership with Taste of the West, celebrating the charities and community groups bringing good food to everyone across the south west.

Whether it's a community larder stocked by local producers, a weekly lunch club for isolated neighbours, a cooking class or a surplus food project, we want to hear about it!

The Community Table Award is free to enter and open to even the smallest, grassroots projects.

You can enter yourself or nominate a group (with their permission).

The winner and runner up will be announced at Taste of the West's Awards ceremony on February 2 2027.

Please share details with the local heroes in your community.
