Statement from the Board of Trustees at Kinergy

It is with great sadness that, due to challenges in the funding landscape in recent years, Kinergy is no longer able to continue operating and thus the Kinergy Board of Trustees has taken the difficult decision to close the service. All of our counselling and support services will come to an end by 31st March 2025.

Our waiting list clients and survivors are being signposted to other support services including SARSAS, Womankind, the R**e Crisis England and Wales national helpline and the Survivor Pathway at www.survivorpathway.org.uk.
We understand this news will be distressing and acknowledge the impact on the time clients will need to wait for services elsewhere.

We are proud of the support we have been able to offer our clients and survivors since we started in 1996 and would like to thank our staff, donors and partners for their invaluable support and dedication over the last 29 years.
If you are a past client and have a data access request please contact SARSAS on [email protected] or 0808 801 0456.

We would like to introduce you to Ashley, our newest Kinergy Ambassador! ๐Ÿ“ฃ๐Ÿ’™

He is a writer and performer who runs his own poetry night in the city, Just Cos! Poetry. He is a passionate runner, cyclist, and footballer, and loves staying active and keeping fit. Writing and painting have played a central role in his recovery, and he believes artistic expression is central to navigating many of lifeโ€™s challenges.

"I self-referred to Kinergy when I was seeking support for historical sexual abuse. I had 24 weekly one-to-one sessions with a counsellor, which were a crucial step in my recovery journey.

I am now very happy to represent Kinergy as an ambassador. This role allows me to promote their services and serve as an example of how trauma can be overcome."

Ashley's Message to Survivors
"Listen to yourself and trust your instincts. It is important to feel in control of our lives and to recognise the agency we have over our journeys."

CSA is not ok because...
It's not talked about. It is so important for anyone, whether they identify as a CSA survivor or not, to have the opportunity to connect with others and share experiences.

With this in mind, we'd like to highlight the Beyond Therapy Festival of Activism which is returning next month!
This year's event will explore what healing means, with a focus on the mental health impacts of CSA. Find out more and get your tickets via the link below ๐Ÿ‘‡

shame keeps survivors silent. Shame is a significant contributor to psychological distress following CSA, it inhibits disclosure, and is a challenging emotion to overcome in therapy.

CSA is not ok because...
It can take years for survivors to disclose what happened to them. According to a study by the NSPCC, the average length of time taken to disclose CSA is 7 years with many disclosures not being recognised or understood, or being dismissed or ignored.

In the year to April 2024, 37% of our clients were seeking support due to CSA, and 17% due to both CSA and adulthood sexual violence. Kinergy is here to support all adult survivors of CSA ๐Ÿ’™
