Well, that’s a wrap!

The Wishing Washing Line West project has now come to a close. We have such fond memories of working alongside so many wonderful care homes and volunteers over the course of the project. A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved – it’s been an absolute joy making these wishes come true. 💛✨

We are wishing everyone a and we will continue to over at Alive Activities

“Words are not enough – an afternoon of real magic, lots of smiles and a special wish granted!”, said Vicky, Activities Coordinator at Nashley House Care Home, about Elvis’s (AKA Stuart Horne) visit. ✨

Resident Valarie wished to ‘meet Elvis’, and her wish came true just before Christmas. The show was extra special as Elvis sang and danced with Valarie, making everybody smile. 'Can't help falling in love' 🎶 with such a charming Elvis, we say ...

A big thank you to Stuart – it’s safe to say the afternoon was a huge success!

‘Aaawww’ alert! 🚨😊

Pony Flora recently made a special trip to the residents at Riversway Care Home and brought a lot of joy. Everyone loved stroking and brushing her. 🐴🐎 Flora visited residents in their room, so everyone could join the fun. Being around animals has so many benefits for wellbeing.

Thanks so much to the staff at Riversway and for everyone at Little Party Heaven - Entertainers & Animals for helping us make this wish come true – and of course beautiful Flora for her patience. 💛

Are you a maritime history enthusiast? Fan of Brunel's SS Great Britain? Lover of everything ships and sea? 🚢🌊

Then we are looking for YOU!👋 We have an upcoming trip to the SS Great Britain planned with a small group of care home residents. To make the trip even more fun, and to get the local Bristol community involved, we are looking for one or two volunteers for the day who’d enjoy sharing their love for & expertise of nautical history, stories and facts.

If you’d like to get involved (or know someone who would), please get in touch on [email protected] or 07519534577. You will make the residents’ day! ✨

PLEASE SHARE WIDELY.

With a little help from Wishing Washing Line West, Tony, his daughter Jo, and the wonderful Activities Coordinator Ewa went fishing at Bitterwell Lake last month. Tony (who is a resident at Gracefields Nursing Home, part of Cedar Care Homes) was very happy to have his wish fulfilled. 🐟🐠

Ewa says: “With the sun shining brightly above, we couldn't have asked for better weather. Throughout the day, Tony had an absolute blast. We cast our lines into the glistening waters. The joy of his face was immeasurable, and his laughter echoed against the tranquil backdrop of nature. It was truly a memorable experience, filled with laughter, bonding, and a shared love of the outdoors. He was teaching me how to fish. He took it very seriously and was very engaged and focused to tell me everything properly.” 🎣

Tony said that it was “one of the best mornings” he had in a while, and is looking forward to hopefully going again soon.

Big thanks to Ewa for sharing these lovely photos with us. 💛

Earlier this month, we fulfilled a special wish of a group of male residents living at Beach Lawns Nursing Home: they wished to (re-)visit M Shed, Bristol’s beloved history museum.

Tracey from Beach Lawns said about the excursion:

“The residents loved every minute of this trip. The displays at M-Shed brought back so many memories for those who went. They remembered the objects on display. For those living with dementia, they were able to recall things and have full conversations with one another about them. They talked about it on the bus on the way home, and even that evening at tea they were still talking about it!”

This absolutely made our day! How wonderful to see everyone having such a great time! 😊

The best thing about running Wishing Washing Line West is to see the smiles that we can bring. We are so happy we could fulfil Shaun’s wish for some Formula 1 memorabilia last month. 🏎 🏁

Shaun lives at Riversway Care Home and is a huge fan of F1, especially of Michael Schumacher. Before he was presented with the gifts, Shaun was visited by his family and enjoyed KFC for lunch (his favourite!). It sounds like a wonderful day was had by all – Riversway staff said Shaun was over the moon! 🌕

Thanks to the Riversway team for sharing Shaun’s joy with us. We wish you all the best, Shaun! ✨

“Look at this, I had one of these!”, “Gosh, I remember this!”, “I can’t believe these are still around, I used to have one” and many more comments like these were shared by the happy group of Beach Lawns Nursing Home residents who recently visited Oakham Treasures.

Showing everything from tractors to chocolate bars and telephones to toys, the history museum brought back a lot of memories. 🚜🍫☎🧸

Resident Laurence said: “I was born in 1941 and it took me back to my childhood. I will try and get there again. I’ve got to the age where I’m not enjoying things, but I enjoyed this”.

Activities Coordinator Tracey added that everyone had an incredible day, complete with packed lunches supplied by head chef Ian, which they enjoyed outside in the picnic area.

We at Wishing Washing Line West are very happy that we could make this trip down memory lane possible. Big thank you to everyone involved! Keep the wishes coming! ✨

It's o-fish-ial: we're fulfilling Tony's wish to go angling at Bitterwell Lake! 🎣

But we need your support. We are looking for a volunteer who's got fishing equipment for two and would like to accompany Tony and a carer to Bitterwell Lake for a lovely afternoon. 🐠🐟

If you're a fishing enthusiast and available for a couple of hours this month, ideally on a Friday, please get in touch at [email protected]

Let's make Tony's wish come true! ✨ Please share widely!
