🌸 A Visit to Acton Court 🌸

A few of our WI ladies enjoyed a delightful trip to Acton Court this week.

They spent a lovely day exploring this fascinating Tudor manor house, renowned for its connections to King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. The beautiful gardens were in full bloom, with wildflower meadows, roses and lavender providing a stunning backdrop for a summer visit.

The weather treated them to a mix of sunshine and dramatic skies, which only added to the charm of the day. They enjoyed wandering through the grounds, admiring the historic architecture, and sharing good company along the way.

It certainly looks like they had a wonderful time!

📸 Here are a few photographs from their visit. 🌼🏡

Why Do Rivers Matter?
Water scarcity, floods, climate resilience, biodiversity, pollution, leisure, wildlife.
At BHWI this month Bristol Avon Rivers Trust are visiting to tell us more about the state of our local rivers.

A group of WI members went to see Six at the Theatre Royal in Bath, and were bowled over by the show. We're looking forward to going to see the Greatest Showman next week.

Pin-money? Straight-laced? We learned where these terms came from - and a lot more - on a very enjoyable evening watching the Queen's lady in waiting demonstrate how the Tudor Queens would dress. And so much more - bringing history alive!

What a fantastic night we had for our March meeting. Roma came to give her expert advice on painting watercolours and we had a fun evening recreating a painting of Stonehenge. It was a very well attended night especially as the weather was wet and windy. We had a very enjoyable evening with some real talent in the room.
The subgroups appear to be very busy at present with trips to the St Nicks market and air raid shelter, Highgrove gardens, Six and The Greatest showman all planned for March and April. We are also looking at extending the groups so if you have any further ideas please contact your committee members. A group already put forward is for a Sunday lunch club so please message if you would like to join.
Next month's meeting will be on 9th April and we have the Tudor royalty and Tudor queens wardrobe experience.
We welcome any new members and please email [email protected] if you are interested in joining our friendly group of ladies. We meet at Bromley Heath junior school, usually on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30pm. Come and see what it’s all about.

This month's trip was to St Nicholas market at the Corn Exchange and the air raid shelter underneath the Corn Exchange. It was very interesting, even for us born and bred Bristolians.

Yesterday was a great evening water colour painting - something many of us hadn't tried before. Thank you to Roma Widger for being prepared to help those of us who are not creative and leading us step by step through this new experience.

Thursday's 5 February was a night of intrigue with a look at the murder of Shirley Banks, from a detective involved in the case back in 1987. Rob Jones made it a very interesting night, with how the case was solved and how other cases were linked to the convicted killer, John Cannan, and the Bristol area around the same time.
Our next WI meeting will be on 12th March and we will be doing water colour painting and there will be a raffle, so please feel free to bring any prizes and most importantly your purse to buy tickets.
We look forward to welcoming any new ladies who wish to join our friendly WI group. We meet in Bromley Heath Junior school hall. Meetings are usually on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30pm. If you would like more information, please email [email protected]
